| JERUSALEM — An Israeli aid agency has established a child education centre in a refugee camp in Haiti. IsraAID partnered with local aid agencies to open the centre in the Petionville Refugee Camp, the largest refugee camp in Port-au-Prince, on the site of a former golf course. The camp has 60,000 Haitians living under the patronage of the American ambassador. The Israeli team already has provided medical post-trauma treatment to thousands of refugees in the camp. The child education centre is operating in tents that had been used for an Israeli field hospital donated by the Israel Defence Forces. Activities such as teaching, music, sports and earthquake readiness training will be held for 250 children at a time. A similar centre is expected to open this week at another refugee site. The IsraAID missions to Haiti are funded by the American Jewish Committee and UJA Federation of Greater Toronto, B’nai Brith International and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, as well as a number of other Jewish federations, including Los Angeles, Cleveland, St. Louis, San Francisco, New York and Miami. To date, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto has raised $817,742 through its Haiti Relief Fund. |

Missionary Group's Lawyer Is Investigated by El Salvador

The Wall Street Journal.comBy DAVID LUHNOW
Police in El Salvador said Friday they are trying to determine if Jorge Puello, the lawyer for 10 American missionaries detained in Haiti for having tried to leave the country with 33 children, is the same person as a Salvadoran man wanted on child-trafficking charges.
El Salvador's National Police said in a statement they are investigating whether Mr. Puello is Jorge Torres Orellana, a man who is wanted on charges of child trafficking in El Salvador. The Salvadoran police posted pictures of both Mr. Puello and Mr. Torres on their Web site and said it asked for U.S. help in comparing the fingerprints of the two men.
Mr. Puello has been the main legal adviser to the Americans since shortly after their Jan. 28 arrest, when the group was detained for trying to cross into the Dominican Republic with 33 children on a bus and without the right paperwork. They have been in jail since, under investigation for possible child abduction and conspiracy.
Mr. Puello's name doesn't appear on the registry of the Dominican Republic College of Attorneys, a list on which all attorney's names are required to appear for them to litigate in the country's courts, according to Vinicio Montero, who operates the registry. Mr. Puello couldn't be reached. Calls to his cellphone went into voice mail and he didn't return messages asking for his comment.
If Mr. Puello is linked to the case in El Salvador, that would be bad news for the detained Americans, who were hoping to get released early next week. This past week, family members of the children testified to the magistrate investigating the case that they willingly gave their children to the American group.
The Haitian lawyer for the Americans then filed a motion for the case to be dropped. The prosecutor who is considering the motion is due to make a recommendation early next week.

Baroness Jenny Tonge has been sacked
Baroness Jenny Tonge, a Liberal Democrat frontbencher in Britain, has been sacked as the party's health spokeswoman after urging an inquiry into charges that Israeli forces in Haiti harvested the organs of victims, British media outlets reported Saturday.
Tonge, who served as a Liberal Democrat spokeswoman in the House of Lords, has been removed from the post.
Party lead Nick Clegg initially refused to take steps against Tonge, whose comments were published by The Jewish Chronicle Thursday. However, he later changed his position, dismissing the baroness' comments as "wrong and distasteful."
In a statement issued by Clegg, Saturday he said: "Following discussions with the Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords, Lord McNally, I have decided that Jenny Tonge will stand down as Liberal Democrat health spokesperson in the Lords following her unacceptable comments suggesting an inquiry into highly offensive allegations against the IDF humanitarian operation in Haiti."
"The comments were wrong, distasteful and provocative and I recognize the deep and understandable distress they have caused to the Jewish community," he said, while noting that he does not believe that Jenny Tonge is anti-Semitic or racist.

Britain - Former British MP Tonge: Probe claims of IDF organ theft in Haiti

Baroness Jenny Tonge, a former Liberal Democrat member of the British parliament, said this week that Israel should set up an inquiry to disprove allegations that its medical teams in Haiti “harvested” organs of earthquake victims for use in transplants.
The organ theft claims were published last week in the Palestine Telegraph, an online journal based in Gaza of which Baroness Tonge is a patron.
Tonge told the JC that IDF forces were “to be commended for their fantastic response to the Haitian earthquake," but added, “To prevent allegations such as these — which have already been posted on YouTube — going any further, the IDF and the Israeli Medical Association should establish an independent inquiry immediately to clear the names of the team in Haiti.”
Ed Fordham, the Lib Dem candidate for Hampstead and Kilburn, was quoted by the JC as saying, “It’s abhorrent that anyone should suggest that something as perverse and sick as this should be investigated.”
Monroe Palmer, chairman of Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel, added, “Whilst I welcome Tonge’s approval of Israeli actions in Haiti, she is misguided to call for any investigation. On this basis, there could be calls for an investigation to discover the ‘truth’ in The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.”
The allegations came in an article titled Focus on Israel: Harvesting Haitian Organs by an American researcher, Stephen Lendman, who accused Israel of a “crime against humanity”.
Lendman referred to a “damning” YouTube video uploaded by an American resident of Seattle, Washington, accusing soldiers in the IDF delegation to the earthquake site in Haiti of being involved in stealing organs from their patients.
The man, who calls himself T. West, fronts a group called AfriSynergy Productions, whose declared goal is to empower the black man. The video purports to present something to think about while exploiting the horrible tragedy that has befallen Haiti to recycle false claims that IDF soldiers engage in organ trafficking.

Heads Exploding in the Muslim World as Huffington Post Spreads Blood Lies About Jews
ByL Pamela Geller
It is something to see - the ummah's visceral response to good. VIDEO HERE.
The hatred of the good for being the good.
One lunatic makes a you tube post and the world takes it up like free food... No mention of the extraordinary gratitude of the Haitian people or that the first baby born after the earthquake was named Israel. More here and here. No mention that the Muslim world did nothing.
Much thanks, links hat tip Armaros
Jewish blood libels ....are daily fodder over on the dark side. And what is their objective apart from the obvious demonization of the Jewish people? They want the acts of goodness and kindness to stop. Punish the good and maybe they'll stop doing good work. They don't understand the motive.
But now the Jew-hating ummah has new collaborators in the US -- Jew-haters traffic in libel on leftwing sites (like the notoriously Jew hating Puffington Host) that are only too happy to aid and abet in a future genocide of Jews. The Haiti blood Libel was started by Huffington post regular commenter T-Westthea.
Armaros exposes the Jew-hater:
This freak is a regular on Huff. He has a Youtube channel that generates impressive traffic. So how come Huff never noticed that? On Huff, he promotes conspiracy theories about Lieberman and US designed AIDS and all that Wright stuff....not deleted, not banned, left alone. It is funny he used Olberman s face as his avatar in the past lol.....

Maybe I’m Getting Paranoid … About Obama (Israel)
THE NEW REPUBLIC.COM
I've just read the transcript of the president's remarks about Haiti, the ones he made on January 15. He noted that, in addition to assistance from the United States, significant aid had also come from "Brazil, Mexico, Canada, France, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, among others." Am I missing another country that truly weighed in with truly consequential assistance? Ah, yes. There it is. Right there "among others." Yes, the country to which I refer is "among others," that one.
The fact is that, next to our country, Israel sent the largest contingent of trained rescue workers, doctors, and other medical personnel. The Israeli field hospital was the only one on the ground that could perform real surgery, which it did literally hundreds of times, while delivering--as of last week--at least 16 babies, including one premature infant and three caesarians. The first 250-odd Israelis were real professionals, and they were supplemented by others, also professionals. And to these can be added the many organized Jews from the Diaspora who, in solidarity with Israel, also went on a work pilgrimage, an aliyah, in solidarity with Haiti.
It's not that Israeli participation in the Haiti horror was being kept secret. I myself saw it reported several times on television—on ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN.
So didn't Obama notice? For God's sake, everybody noticed the deep Israeli involvement. I understand that Obama doesn't like Middle East narratives that do not contain "one side and the other side" equal valence. But he couldn't have that here. The Arabs don't care a fig, not for their impoverished and backward own, and certainly not for strangers. That's why their presence in Haiti amounted to a couple of bucks from Saudi Arabia and maybe from some other sheikhs.
An afterthought: Who would want Arab participation in the rescue effort? This was serious work and dangerous work. Amateurs weren't welcome.
Yes, I think that the labors of the Israelis were edited out of Obama's speech, either by his speechwriters (who have made dissing Israel their forté) or by his own oh-so-delicate but dishonest censoring mechanism.NOTE: TWO COMMENTS ATTACHED TO THIS ARTICLE (SEE BELOW):
I regard Obama's words as extremely calculated. Someone once said here that whatever was included in his public expression was always well thought through and never coincidental or careless. Like Jane Austen's novels, Obama is thrifty with words. Nothing just happens to be there, or to be absent by accident.
At the first (I think) debate among the presidential candidates, they were asked to name America’s three most important allies. Clinton and McCain named Israel as one of the three. Barack Obama didn’t.
I'm sure Marty you noted this omission at the time but probably managed to rationalize away your anxieties somehow.

You might want to take a look at this article by Nick Cohen which is being much discussed on the Internet:
"I don't believe you can understand why he is such a let-down if you hold on to old definitions of liberalism. From Eleanor Roosevelt onwards, the Democrats were meant to believe in universal human rights. Even Jimmy Carter, mocked for his weakness in handling tyrants, tried to make them a part of his foreign policy. The flattering label "realist" – which, like the equally gratifying "sceptic", is not a badge of honour you can award to yourself – was claimed by Republicans, most notably Nixon, Gerald Ford and Henry Kissinger. They maintained they were hard-headed men who could see the world as it is, unlike soppy liberal idealists. They would deal with any regime, however repulsive, that could help advance US interests, and ignore what their allies did to their captive populations."

Arab Newspapers Debate Haiti Aid Efforts
February 2, 2010
The international aid extended to Haiti following the January 12, 2010 earthquake evoked mixed reactions in the Arab press. While some articles criticized the Arab and Muslim world for extending only limited assistance to Haiti, others opined that the American relief efforts were not purely altruistic, but were aimed at reaping profit, economic and other.
It should be noted that 10 days after the quake, Saudi Arabia announced the donation of $50 million in aid to Haiti,[1] while other Arab countries pledged smaller sums, including Kuwait, which gave $3.5 million,[2] and the Qatari Red Crescent, which promised to donate 4 million Qatari riyals.[3]
Following are excerpts from several articles on the subject:
Palestinian Researcher: "The Absence of any Governmental or Non-Governmental Aid from the Arab and Muslim [Countries] to the Disaster-Stricken People of Haiti Is a Disgrace"
Palestinian researcher Khaled Hroub of Oxford University wrote an article in the daily Al-Hayat in which he condemned the Arab and Muslim countries for not rallying to Haiti's aid, describing this as a disgrace. He called on the Arabs to heed the plight of various nations around the world instead of focusing only on their own affairs:
"The absence of any governmental or non-governmental aid from the Arab and Muslim [countries] to the disaster-stricken people of Haiti is a disgrace in the fullest sense of the world. Most of the Arab governments displayed amazing impotence, and the rich Arabs inside and outside the Arab world, who spend millions on celebrations and silly shopping [sprees], were [likewise] absent [from the scene]... Even the Arab media... did not and does not ascribe enough importance to this disaster. [If it did], it could have increased public sensitivity to it and strengthened the feelings of solidarity and human [compassion for the victims]. After giving the burning news about the earthquake in the first few days, [it quickly stopped] reporting on the [quake] and its disastrous results."
"Our Twisted Religious Mind, [and Our Notions of Divine] Reward and Retribution, Have Inculcated [in Us] a Sick, Mechanical Way of Thinking that Leaves No Room for Any Human Feeling"
"[At that point], we started reading [instead] about the 'occupation' of Haiti by the U.S. military, which was sent there to protect the airport and help provide [the Haitians] with aid and security... Many Arab analysts [defended] Haiti's 'sovereignty' more zealously than the Haitians themselves or the [Haitian] government, which were begging for the help of the U.S. and the other world countries in keeping the country functioning, at least to a minimal extent, after the collapse that came with the quake.
"Readers on Arab news websites [wrote] sickening comments, [claiming, for example,] that Allah had punished this destitute country and its people for their corruption and debauchery... Our twisted religious mind, [and our notions of divine] reward and retribution, have inculcated [in us] a sick, mechanical way of thinking that leaves no room for any human feeling. This disgrace is merely [one characteristic] of what can be seen as our shameful Arab era..."
Interestingly, "All Those Who Wield the Sword against 'Imperialism'" Are Conspicuously Absent from the List of Aid Providers
"An interesting feature of the list [of countries that have extended relief to Haiti] is the absence of all those who wield the sword against 'imperialism.' Chavez, that fighting revolutionary, who speaks so much against the U.S. in Latin America, has not brought Venezuela into the list of countries offering aid... The help extended by Venezuela has been negligible, if not symbolic... The same is true for the symbolic aid extended by Iran... The absence of Muslim charity organizations in these [situations of] disaster is [likewise] a disgrace. All [we have seen] is some symbolic aid extended by charity organizations and semi-governmental organizations in Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, and Lebanon. These organizations' missionary and da'wa rhetoric is confined to helping Muslims, and they seem to respond only to Muslim pain. The pain of non-Muslims does not merit a reaction... The raucous statements and missionary and revolutionary rhetoric [of these organizations] seem to be in opposite proportion to their actions. The noise they produce comes to make up for their inaction...
"Some claim that the Arab aid should have been sent to Gaza, which is besieged from every direction, instead of to Haiti... This too is twisted logic that disrupts the [correct order of] priorities... The disaster that is the siege on Gaza, and the Arabs' role in perpetuating it, are a disgrace [in themselves]. The suffering of hundreds of thousands of Gazans under the Israeli and Western siege is [indeed] condemnable... The savage Israeli fire [directed against] Gaza in the recent war was the culmination of the oppressive siege, and it exacerbated the suffering of the Palestinians there. However, our solidarity [with the Gazans] must not eliminate our sensitivity for the catastrophes that befall others, especially when their plight is much worse than our own.
"The statistics show that there are 130 Haitians killed [in the quake] for every Palestinian killed in Gaza, and more than 200 homes collapsed in the quake for every home destroyed by the Israelis in Gaza. I have no intention whatsoever to belittle the suffering of the Gazans, but I do want us to open our eyes to the disasters of others [instead of] wallowing in sick, narcissistic feelings of victimhood. This is the same narcissism that characterizes the extremist right-wing Zionists, who trade in the Holocaust and want to confine the term 'victim' to Jews, so that nobody else may count as a victim..."[4]
Syrian Columnist: "[America's] Exploitation of the Haiti Earthquake to Gain Exclusive Control over the Fate of This Devastated Country Reveals Clear Colonialist Intentions"
A diametrically opposed view was expressed by columnist Dina Al-Hamed in the Syria government daily Al-Thawra, who accused the U.S. of trying to occupy Haiti and profit from the disaster: "America's announcement that it has committed half a billion dollars [in aid for Haiti], and its pressuring of its allies to provide [further] donations and aid through the Haiti Fund, supervised by George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, raise questions regarding the purpose of this aid and the way it is extended. It turns out that rescuing Haiti [is a lucrative business] for companies owned by or connected with American officials, which enables them to gain huge profits from this disaster-stricken land in the guise of saving [people] and helping them...
"The exploitation of the Haiti earthquake to gain exclusive control over the fate of this devastated country reveals clear colonialist intentions. The U.S. prevented ships and planes from all over the world, especially from Europe, from reaching Haiti – with the exception of the Israeli ships and planes that quickly arrived along with the American ones. Clearly, the goal is nothing but humanitarian, for the health and humanitarian situation [of the Haitians] is deteriorating, while human trafficking – especially trafficking in children – is continuing full force, and the acts of plundering and killing are multiplying, while the American troops deployed [in Haiti] do not lift a finger [to stop them]."[5]
Former Editor of Syrian Daily: "The Haitians Have Every Right to Fear the Armed American Aid that Has Landed [in Their Country] with Military Helicopters, Navies, and Marines"
'Issam Dari, former editor of the Syrian government daily Teshreen, wrote that he could understand the Haitians' fear of being occupied by the U.S.: "...The minute the residents of the White House heard the reports about the disaster that left tens of thousands dead and hundreds of thousands injured and homeless, they quickly cobbled together whatever they could, and sent [to Haiti] big planes full of armed soldiers, military helicopters, medical aid, and blankets. There was no choice but to undertake rapid 'rescue' operations, and that is why 12 military helicopters landed at the presidential palace, while [other] U.S. troops occupied the Port-au-Prince airport and 7,500 troops were deployed around the capital, the airport, and the sea port, in addition to 11,000 [other] troops that were deployed around the country...
"We find ourselves feeling empathy for these disaster-stricken people in their plight, and we completely understand their fears – because ancient, modern, and contemporary [history] gives all the peoples of the world cause for legitimate fears and concerns about the American military activity in this part of our planet. The saying that goes 'wherever the U.S. navy heads, there must be oil,' must be adapted to the reality of the 21st century, [because obtaining] oil is no longer the only goal of the American navy and army. The entire world is now their declared target.
"Before the start of the third millennium, American politicians and media used to say that 'the 21st century will be the American century,' [in which] the 'American dream' will come true. We have already seen the American Century ram Afghanistan, Iraq, Europe, etc., but all these [attacks] failed to achieve the goal in its entirety. Terrorism did not withdraw, the American-manufactured democracy did not spread throughout [the world], and security did not prevail in our planet. On the contrary, the outcome was exactly the opposite. Today's world is more [full of] threats and less safe, stable and prosperous, and terrorism has found fertile ground in which to thrive, grow and strike in every direction.
"Considering this frightening global scenario, the Haitians have every right to fear the armed American aid that has landed [in their country] with military helicopters, navies, and marines..."[6]

Baptists Say They Were Trying to Do Good in Haiti Americans await fate after trying to take 33 children from quake zone across border
By FRANK BAJAK
The Associated Press
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti
Ten U.S. Baptists arrested trying to take 33 children out of earthquake-shattered Haiti say they were just trying to do the right thing, applying Christian principles to save Haitian children.
Prime Minister Max Bellerive told The Associated Press Sunday he was outraged by the group's "illegal trafficking of children" in a country long afflicted by the scourge and by foreign meddling.
But the hard reality on the ground in this desperately poor country — especially after the catastrophic Jan. 12 quake — is that some parents openly attest to their willingness to part with their children if it will mean a better life.
It was a sentiment expressed by all but one of some 20 Haitian parents interviewed at a tent camp Sunday that teemed with children whose toys were hewn from garbage.
"Some parents I know have already given their children to foreigners," said Adonis Helman, 44. "I've been thinking how I will choose which one I may give — probably my youngest."
Haiti's overwhelmed government has halted all adoptions unless they were in motion before the quake amid fears that parentless or lost children are more vulnerable than ever to being seized and sold.
Without proper documents and concerted efforts to track down their parents, they could be forever separated from family members able and willing to care for them. Bellerive's personal authorization is now required for the departure of any child.
The orphanage where the children were later taken said at least some of the kids have living parents, who were apparently told that the children were going on an extended holiday from the post-quake misery.
The church group's own mission statement said it planned to spend only hours in the devastated capital, quickly identifying children without immediate families and busing them to a rented hotel in the Dominican Republic without bothering to get permission from the Haitian government.
Whatever its intentions, other child welfare organizations in Haiti called the plan reckless.
"The instinct to swoop in and rescue children may be a natural impulse but it cannot be the solution for the tens of thousands of children left vulnerable by the Haiti earthquake," said Deb Barry, a protection expert at Save the Children, which wants a moratorium on new adoptions. "The possibility of a child being scooped up and mistakenly labeled an orphan in the chaotic aftermath of the disaster is incredibly high."
The church members, most from Idaho, said they were only trying to rescue abandoned and traumatized children.
"In this chaos the government is in right now, we were just trying to do the right thing," the group's spokeswoman, Laura Silsby, told the AP at Haiti's judicial police headquarters, where she and others were taken after their arrest Friday night trying to cross the border into the Dominican Republic in a bus.
Silsby, 40, admitted she had not obtained the proper Haitian documents for the children, whose names were written on pink tape on their shirts.
The children, ages 2 months to 12 years old, were taken to an orphanage run by Austrian-based SOS Children's Villages, where spokesman George Willeit said they arrived "very hungry, very thirsty."
A 2- to 3-month old baby was dehydrated and had to be hospitalized, he said. An orphanage worker held and caressed another, older baby, who was feverish and looked disoriented.
"One (8-year-old) girl was crying, and saying, 'I am not an orphan. I still have my parents.' And she thought she was going on a summer camp or a boarding school or something like that," Willeit said.
The orphanage was working to reunite the children with their families, joining a concerted effort by the Haitian government, the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other NGOs.
Willeit said a woman from the group had spent time in Port-au-Prince prior to the quake winning the trust of people in a neighborhood whose children were taken.
In Idaho, the Rev. Clint Henry denied that his Central Valley Baptist Church had anything to do with child trafficking and said he didn't believe such reports. He urged his tearful congregation to pray to God to "help them as they seek to resist the accusations of Satan and the lies that he would want them to believe and the fears that he would want to plant into their heart."
As the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti is in a difficult spot — it needs aid, but deeply resents foreign meddling. Many have mixed feelings toward Christian groups that funnel hundreds of millions into missions in Haiti.
"There are many who come here with religious ideas that belong more in the time of the inquisition," said Max Beauvoir, head of Haiti's Voodoo Priest's Association, which represents thousands of priests and priestesses. "These types of people believe they need to save our souls and our bodies from ourselves. We need compassion, not proselytizing now, and we need aid — not just aid going to people of the Christian faith."
Two-thirds of Haiti's 9 million are said to practice Voodoo, a melange of beliefs from parts of west Africa and Catholicism.
Many religious groups run legitimate adoption agencies and orphanages in Haiti. Some of the children in them aren't actually orphans, but have been left by relatives who can't afford their care.
The parents interviewed at the tent camp said they understood giving their kids up may mean never seeing them again.
"I see all these kids running around and I can't do anything for them," said Joseph Emmanuel Amazon, 53, a laborer who struggles to support seven kids. "They would be better off in another country. I'd like one of them to go to the United States."
His wife, Marie Rita Pierre, agreed: "My youngest daughter wants to go to university. We can't help her"
Silsby told the AP that she hadn't been following news reports while in Haiti, and didn't think she needed Haitian permission to take them out of the country. She said they only had the best of intentions and paid no money for the children, who she said were brought to a Haitian pastor by distant relatives.
Silsby, who incorporated the nonprofit New Life Children's Refuge in Idaho on Nov. 25, said she could not provide a contact number for the pastor who put her in touch with the relatives because her papers and cell phone were taken by police.
Child trafficking "is exactly what we are trying to combat," Silsby said.
Sean Lankford of Meridian, Idaho, whose wife and 18-year-old daughter were being held, told the AP that U.S. consular officials told him a court hearing was scheduled for Monday. The Americans were being held at judicial police headquarters.
However, Haiti's justice secretary, Amarick Louis, told the AP on Sunday that a commission would meet Monday to determine if the group would go before a judge.
The Americans include members of the Central Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, Idaho, and the East Side Baptist Church in Twin Falls, Idaho. They are part of the Southern Baptist Convention, which is America's largest Protestant denomination and has extensive humanitarian programs worldwide.
The Idaho churches had elaborate plans before the earthquake to shelter up to 200 Haitian and Dominican boys and girls in the Magante beach resort, complete with a school and chapel as well as villas and a seaside cafe catering to adoptive U.S. parents.
Henry, the senior pastor, said the 500-member church wanted to help "because we believe that Christ has asked us to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the whole world, and that includes children." He said church members had given several thousand dollars to the mission.
When the quake hit, Silsby and her team decided to move faster.
Silsby, who runs an online shopping site in Idaho, quickly put their plan on Web site, soliciting tax-deductible donations while preparing their trip.

Why the U.N. Human Rights Council ignores IDF’s life-saving in Haiti
In the video below, the CNN reporter expresses amazement at the extraordinary contribution made by the Israel Defense Forces’ medical team in rescuing and healing Haiti’s earthquake victims. In human rights terms, we call it protecting the right to life and the right to health.
So why is all of this being ignored by the U.N. Human Rights Council and its legions of experts and advisers?
Does it threaten the Islamic-dominated Council’s worldview of Israel as absolutely evil, a nation capable of doing nothing good?

Israeli Team’s Efforts Stand Out In Haiti
Rescue workers on Jan. 15 carry an injured survivor of the earthquakein Haiti to the Israeli field hospital, where some 40 doctors
have won praise for life-saving work.

The Israel Defense Forces sent 220 personnel to the Caribbean island on Jan. 15, three days after a 7.0-scale earthquake devastated the capital city of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. The team included 40 doctors, 20 nurses and paramedics, search-and-rescue teams with trained dogs and other specialists.
In addition to the army team, Israeli volunteers from the Hadassah Medical Organization and the rescue group Zaka, formed in response to terror attacks, and a team from IsraAid, an umbrella group of Israeli relief organizations are also in Port-au-Prince. IsraAid volunteers treated a 6-year-old girl who was pulled from the rubble of her apartment building and later transferred her to the IDF field hospital, where she was expected to survive. The Hadassah team set up a field hospital in a soccer stadium and operated on more than 70 people over 36 hours, the organization reported.
Other nations participating in the relief effort with personnel or goods, in varying degrees, include Canada, Egypt, France, China, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Italy, Iran and Georgia. Many others have pledged funds to help.
Israel’s consul general in New York, Assaf Shariv said there had been four births at the IDF hospital, with two of those infants still in incubators. The army doctors were also caring for a 7-month-old girl who had been pulled from rubble after several days. “The question is what to do with her,” said Shariv. “She has no family, no one knows anything about her.”
Attempts to reach several Israeli commanders and officials working in Haiti were unsuccessful on Tuesday.
Shachar Zahavi, founder and coordinator of IsraAid, said he expected another 15 doctors to leave for Haiti on Saturday.
Shariv said that while the initial deployment of the team was two weeks, the Israeli medics were likely to stay as long as needed, with personnel being rotated home. He said supplies were being shuttled by truck from the airport in Santo Domingo, in the neighboring Dominican Republic, to the team in Port-au-Prince, where there is no power in most of the city.
“It’s a very big operation, but we don’t have a chopper to send everyone where we want,” he said. “It’s very dangerous.” Shariv said the Israeli government was minimally coordinating with the U.S. team there, with a focus on water delivery.
As details emerged, pro-Israel organizations and individuals this week busily tweeted and e-mailed news of the latest rescues, including two students pulled from the rubble of a university in Port-au-Prince Monday night. The Israel Project, an advocacy group, sent reporters contact information for Israelis on the ground in Haiti.
CNN on Monday reported that the Israeli field hospital in Haiti is the most effective in operation there, and was already performing surgery while other international units were still waiting for equipment. An ABC report detailed how the network’s correspondent, Richard Besser, who is a doctor, helped a pregnant woman save her baby with the help of the Israeli hospital. The grateful mother, who had to undergo an emergency C-section, reportedly said she would be naming the baby Israel.
“Media-wise it’s been a very successful week for Israel,” said Shariv. “Around the world we have gotten some very good press. But we don’t look at it that way. That’s not why we are doing this.”
Shariv said Haitian newspapers had noted the extent of Israel’s aid as considerable given that virtually none of the Jewish state’s citizens were harmed in the earthquake.
Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, said it was the first time he had heard talk of a disproportionate response by Israel in a positive way.
“The U.S. and Israel have been at the forefront of these efforts,” said Hoenlein. “It’s something we should all be proud of.”
While Hoenlein said the relief effort showed “the true Israel and not the lies of the Goldstone Report” — a reference to the United Nations report, authored by Richard Goldstone, that found that Israel and Hamas had committed war crimes in the Gaza war — he said he didn’t believe Israel’s government factored politics and good publicity into the calculus.
“They have done this before, whenever there is a landslide or explosion or natural disaster. I doubt they figured the political benefits, because they usually don’t get any.”
As of Tuesday there were nine short videos of the Israeli teams helping Haitians posted on YouTube, eight of them by the IDF spokesman’s office. In one, Capt. Barak Raz detailed Israel’s effort and said “the IDF believes in being part of the international community’s relief efforts to aid those in need.”
A Twitter feed on the IDF in Haiti on Tuesday had 755 followers.
Closer to home, American Jewish organizations had raised about $5 million for Haiti relief in the first week after the disaster.
Will Recant, assistant executive vice president of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, said his organization had recorded 15,282 donations on Monday, averaging $112, for a total of over $1.7 million in the first week.
“The donations keep coming in at a very rapid clip,” he said. The JDC is a key member of the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, a consortium of 30 Jewish organizations and federations that have taken part in responding to one or more catastrophes in recent years. It was first convened following the Rwandan genocide of 1994.
But Recant said the 2004 Asian tsunami, which killed more than a quarter-million people, set a new standard for disaster relief, with lessons that are in use today.
“The tsunami was instrumental in setting the stage for how organizations deal with a disaster of this magnitude,” he said.
For example, he said that on the Friday after the earthquake, the coalition held a conference call to discuss local partner organizations in Haiti who could best distribute the funds raised and goods purchased.
“At the time of the tsunami, it was a bit of a chaotic situation and we weren’t able to locate volunteers in a very quick and orderly manner,” said Recant. “This time it will be much quicker.”
Ruth Messinger, President of the American Jewish World Service, a member of the disaster coalition, said her organization has been working in Haiti since long before the earthquake.
“We have four or five projects where additional funding is needed,” she said. “I would love to see the coalition [spend the money there] to be sure that our giving is strategic and that it goes to reliable organizations.”
As of Tuesday AJWS had sent $250,000 of an estimated $2.4 million raised to its partners in Haiti. .

U.S. must now start twisting Israeli and Palestinian arms
By Yoel Marcus
Every time disaster strikes anywhere in the world, I am filled anew with admiration at how ready and willing we are to assist, and how speedy, effective, organized and wholehearted that assistance is.
We did not rush aid to Haiti because there is a Jewish community there. We went there for humanitarian reasons. As a nation that has experienced disasters and bereavement for generations, other nations' disasters do not leave us indifferent. Our photographers and reporters hurried over there not to humiliate some Turkish ambassador, but because they want to show - and rightly so - an attractive side of Israel, for a change.
Note: "An attractive side of Israel, for a change"!!! Obama, you are so pompous! You have done more damage to Israel over the past year than the earthquake has done to Haiti! You continue your threats and demands upon Israel, while ignoring the refusal of the Palestinians to discuss peace. Of course, it is difficult to discuss peace when the goal of the Palestinians, including Hamas, Hezibollah in Lebanon, and all Muslims are standing around like vultures, waiting to pounce upon Israel; and Iran wants to wipe her off the face of the map! Rather than give Israel a "photo op" in Haiti, how about assisting her, supporting her in her efforts to protect her State and all civilians from the over-powering terrorists who surround her completely! Bee Sting
It is easier for us to organize rescue operations outside Israel than do all that is necessary to advance peace inside it and thus prevent deadly attacks on our home front. There is no need to wait for an "earthquake," as the Yom Kippur War was dubbed, to achieve a "peace of the brave." Anyone who remembers the Scud missiles from Iraq, the 34 days of missiles and Katyusha rockets on the north during the Second Lebanon War and the eight years of Qassam rockets from the Gaza Strip must do everything possible to prevent any excuse for a new war that could strike our civilian population.
| U.S. envoy George Mitchell, who returned to Israel this week, has not achieved anything in his visits so far. Despite the halo he won by his successful mediation in Northern Ireland, he is no James Baker. Nor is he Henry Kissinger. Baker was tough and didn't like our tricks. Kissinger, who was closer to his president, knew how to turn algebra into arithmetic, as Zalman Aran once reportedly said. Mitchell's views on solving the conflict, as he outlined them back when he chaired a presidential commission in 2001, may have been reasonable, but they were unfeasible at that time. He believed Israel had to freeze settlement construction and the Palestinians had to stop the terror attacks. Yet Mitchell's visit this week could be very important, if he abandons his slow mediation and instead puts a more definite and effective presidential plan on the table. After Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed publicly to a two-states-for-two-peoples solution, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' response was peculiar. Instead of agreeing to begin negotiations, he demanded that Israel first freeze construction in the settlements and added several other conditions. This refusal appeared on the face of it like a continuation of the Palestinian tradition of not missing any opportunity that could be missed. For Netanyahu's approach, at least in theory, marked a dramatic turnabout that put his stand in line with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's formula - the 1967 lines plus territorial swaps. Mitchell said in a television interview that he believed it was possible to reach an agreement within two years. But the truth is that the chances of an agreement are getting smaller - not least due to the settlement-freeze policy adopted by U.S. President Barack Obama, on one hand, and Netanyahu's condition - that the Iranian nuclear issue must be solved first - on the other. In any case, Obama's first year as president was lost as far as a peace settlement is concerned. Obama aspired to obtain too much, too quickly: namely, the pan-Islamic arrangement he presented in his Cairo University speech. Another reason was the administration's loss of confidence in Netanyahu. Netanyahu may have agreed to a solution in principle, but in reality, he is continuing to lead us astray, one Middle East expert said. Yitzhak Rabin had a 15-year time-out between his first term as prime minister and his second, when he returned as a man of peace. Bibi is in no hurry to make peace. He returned to power for the purpose of returning to power. Mitchell has so far been convenient for Netanyahu, as he has focused mainly on being present. This does not stem from Mitchell's weakness, but from Obama's. It is not clear why Obama has not forced Abbas to respond to Bibi's two-state proposal. And it is not clear why Mitchell keeps coming and going but has not yet presented an operative plan for an agreement authorized and sponsored by the president. It is very important that on this visit, Mitchell twist Abbas' arm and put the credibility of Bibi's speech at Bar-Ilan University to the test. No agreement will be reached without a plan, and without starting negotiations. It is important that this time, Mitchell not leave before the white smoke is visible - i.e., without a plan and a timetable both for beginning negotiations and for reaching an agreement. This is essential to keep Iran from getting the bomb, and us from being forced, heaven forbid, to hold onto our disaster survival kits in order to save ourselves. | ||
US troops deploy to protect aid
WILLIAM BOOTH, PORT-AU-PRINCE
HUNDREDS of US troops have surged into Haiti's quake-ravaged capital to guard convoys and food distribution sites, while thousands more stationed themselves on ships and helicopters offshore to bolster relief and recovery efforts.
One week after a 7.0-magnitude quake crippled Port-au-Prince, many Haitians living on the streets had still not received any food or medical assistance from their Government or the international community. But there were increasing signs that the aid effort was gaining momentum.
The Haitian government said 75,000 people had been killed in the quake, with another 250,000 injured and more than a million left homeless.
As the UN Security Council approved 3500 additional peacekeepers for the Haiti mission, the US military and other foreign forces began dropping food from planes, delivering troops by helicopter to volatile neighbourhoods, and working to prepare other entry points for aid deliveries.
The delivery of aid was still hampered in some cases, leading to frustration among Haitians and the workers trying to help them.
The medical organisation Doctors Without Borders said that another of its cargo planes had been diverted from landing at the Port-au-Prince airport, where officials have struggled to cope with the massive influx of aid. The group said it has had five flights carrying medical supplies refused landing so far.
Major-General Daniel Allyn, second in charge of the US military operation in Haiti, said officials ''continue to make progress'', but added: ''We do not underestimate the scope of the challenge here.''
General Allyn said troops were working to open more airfields, get more trucks to help deliver water and supplies to victims, and bring in repair and construction equipment to start removing rubble.
As of Tuesday morning, General Allyn said, there were about 2000 US soldiers on the ground and about 5000 on ships or helicopters offshore helping in the efforts. The US military is eventually expected to have 10,000 troops involved in the operation - with half of them coming ashore.
US and Canadian military forces have been charged with guarding food distribution sites as they open, freeing the UN security forces to patrol and keep order.
The additional UN peacekeeping personnel approved on Tuesday will bring the total in Haiti to 12,500.
Throughout the morning, US Navy Black Hawk helicopters shuttled in troops to the badly damaged National Palace compound in the centre of the city.
US troops had been dropping food and water from helicopters in various locations, but doing so had created mayhem as Haitians scrambled for the supplies. UN aid officials have advised against the practice after one drop near the slum of Cite Soleil almost caused a riot.
Among the many supplies running short in Haiti is blood, a World Health Organisation official said.
''Haiti's National Blood Centre building was damaged and some equipment may need to be replaced,'' he said.
Business owners began visiting shops and warehouses in the city centre, hoping to secure what inventory was left. But only a small contingent of Haitian police, unassisted by foreign forces, worked to hold back increasingly impatient crowds awaiting food, water and international help.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- A strong earthquake has hit Haiti, shaking buildings and sending people running into the streets.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the preliminary 6.0 magnitude quake hit at 6:03 a.m. (1103 GMT) Wednesday about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northwest of the capital of Port-au-Prince.
It says the quake struck at a depth of 13.7 miles (22 kilometers).
AP reporters in the Haitian capital say the temblor sent scores of people fleeing into the streets.
The pacific tsunami warning center said the earthquake was located too far inland to generate any tidal waves in the Caribbean.

Hope and Change Comes to Haiti
By JR Dieckmann Monday, January 18, 2010
Never let a crisis go to waste. It’s an opportunity to do things
you couldn’t ordinarily do” - Rahm Emanuel.
Haitian operation will ultimately not be about Haiti; it will be about Obama
The Earthquake in Haiti has presented this administration with just such an opportunity. Already,
Where will the money come from?
Where will the money come from? Will Congress pass legislation to draw it from the treasury? All they’ll find there is a truckload of IOUs. Will it be borrowed from China? Or will Obama donate the money from the remaining $630 billion still remaining in his $787 billion stimulus slush fund? Will the U.S. bare the vast majority of the cost, or will Obama partner with the U.N. to impose an international tax?
It must be nice to be Barack Obama. First the media makes him out to be the long awaited Messiah; then it’s, “Welcome to the White House President Obama. And oh, by the way, here is a $787 billion slush fund gift for you to use anyway you wish during your term in office. Just don‘t tell the people that the money will be spent on your special interest campaign contributors.”
Joe Biden announced today that the Haitian recovery effort will not end with the recovery operation but will be a long term effort to rebuild and sustain the country.
“Our message is simple,” Biden said during his stop in South Florida, which has the largest Haitian-American population in the U.S. “We are there to rescue. We are there to secure. We will be there to provide. We will rebuild, and we will sustain.”
Could this be a prelude to making Haiti America’s 51st state, and another welfare state for the Democrats? “[Haiti] will still be on our radar screen long after it’s off of CNN crawler,” said Biden. “This is personal,” Biden added, referring to White House political director Patrick Gaspard, a Haitian-American who still has family in Haiti.
Biden went on to say: “The Haitian people, they’re our friends, they’re our partners, our neighbors.” They’re are “partners?” Partners in what - poverty and illegal immigration? In what legitimate venture have Americans ever partnered with Haiti?
At the same time, Haitian illegal aliens living in Florida and scheduled to be deported have been granted amnesty and will be allowed to stay in the U.S., get jobs and welfare, driver’s licenses, free healthcare, food stamps, and other privileges of U.S. citizens. It probably won’t be long before they are added to the voter rolls as well.
C-130 cargo planes are flying into Haiti loaded with relief supplies and returning loaded with hundreds of Haitian refugees. It’s not yet known if they will be given house trailers in the Katrina mobile home park, or if the Obama administration will provide them with a mobile home park of their own. How long will it be before they too are granted amnesty, citizenship, and voting rights?
The Rev. Pat Robertson was recently excoriated and criticized for his remark that Haitian people had made a pact with the devil and this earthquake was an act of God striking back at them.
“They were under the heel of the French, and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you’ll get us free from the French,’ true story. And the devil said, ‘OK, it’s a deal.’ . . . Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another.”
I don’t believe there is any connection between the two issues, but did you know that what Robertson said about the pact with the devil is documented in Haitian history? Perhaps it’s just a coincidence that Haiti has been at the center of Voodoo, witchcraft, and devil worship for the past 200 years. But of course, practitioners of this archaic vestige from primitive African animism only represent a small fraction of the Haitian population.
Danny Glover, Earthquakes Global Warming
No connection there says Danny Glover. The earthquake was actually caused by the American policy toward global
“What happened in Haiti could happen to anywhere in the Caribbean because all these island nations are in peril because of global warming. . . . When we did what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I’m saying? We have to act now.”
No, I’m not quite sure exactly what the confused Mr. Glover is saying. As a result of Obama’s failure to secure a global warming treaty in Copenhagen, Haiti suffered an earthquake? The logic here completely escapes me…but it appears to be the product of such an ideologically twisted mentality that it descends into idiotic gibberish..
The people of Haiti have suffered a great loss as the result of the earthquake, and are now enduring an unthinkable existence in the hell that was once their home. What has that to do with global warming? Even Michael Mann and the hoax promoting, global warming “scientists” didn’t predict that.
Most Haitians were born into this poverty-ridden country which has no infrastructure, no domestic products, no industry, little education, nothing but poverty - and which exists primarily on foreign aid and welfare from other countries. Any wealth that Haiti may have had, or money the country receives, has been stolen by their reclusive dictators to support a life of luxury for themselves and their families.
No doubt Obama and Emanuel see this “crisis” as a great opportunity for the Democrat party
No doubt Obama and Emanuel see this “crisis” as a great opportunity for the Democrat party. The people of Haiti have lived all of their lives in poverty, under one corrupt dictator after another. But if Obama and Emanuel think this is an opportunity for them to expand the Democrat voter rolls, they may have a surprise coming.
The Haitian people are extremely independent and self reliant. They are mostly ignored by their government which leaves them to their own initiative to survive. They have been left mostly to fend for themselves by their government. They are a proud people, much like Americans used to be before expanding government bureaucracy began replacing personal responsibility with government dependence.
In Haiti, the only way one can survive is by learning and accepting personal responsibility. If Obama thinks he can force government dependence on these people, he may be in for a shock.
This year, Congress will be considering yet another amnesty bill for illegal aliens. This will no doubt now include Haitian refugees and illegals, and anyone else who wants to come here from Haiti, but Obama shouldn’t count on them to vote Democratic when Haiti becomes our 51st state under the Obama administration.
The Haitian relief and rebuilding effort will be exploited to its fullest advantage by Obama to demonstrate to the world the extreme compassion of his administration, regardless of the cost to the American people. This is another propaganda opportunity for grandstanding on the world stage that Obama will not let go to waste.
It is also another opportunity to bash Bush’s handling of the Katrina disaster. The mainstream media wasted no time in making comparisons between Katrina and Haiti, and how our federal government responded to them. Of course the media never mention that it was the Louisiana state and local officials that kept the federal aid out of New Orleans until after the damage had been done.
Haitian operation will ultimately not be about Haiti; it will be about Obama
Reminding people of Katrina will only bolster Obama’s efforts to show the world that he is not Bush and that his effort will be far superior and effective. As is typical of this administration and media, the Haitian operation will ultimately not be about Haiti; it will be about Obama. The largest political failure in American history will be characterized as “the savior“ once again.
This earthquake has been a major disaster for the Haitian people. When the recovery effort is over, they will be left with nothing but debris, rot, raw sewage, stench, and disease. How will they deal with that?
Yes, hope and change has come to Haiti. First they got the change, and now they have hope for a new government that will feed and care for them, and house them in the latest modern building technology. The question is whether or not Haitian-Americans will view such dependency as a gift or a threat to their new-found freedom.
Considering Haitian history of self-reliance, they may very well object - and vociferously - to the imposition of abusive taxation on the fruits of their labors here in the Land of the Free, and only for the sole purpose of funding an American underclass that has grown used to existing on handouts from the public trough, a process that is wholly alien to the indigenous Haitian population.
The question is whether a strategic move on the part of the Obama-Biden administration to swell the voting rolls with new Haitian “dependents” will backfire, once today’s refugees advance, prosper and become tomorrow’s conservative physicians, scholars and successful entrepreneurs.
American taxpayers are already exhausted with the Obama-Biden administration’s proposed new taxation proposals
Meanwhile, American taxpayers are already exhausted with the Obama-Biden administration’s proposed new taxation proposals. It is nearly a 100% certainty that We The People will never tolerate an inevitable erosion of our own standard of living, while “King” Obama bestows a new largesse upon Haitian citizens who remain in their homeland.
The rebuilding effort in Haiti is expected to take years, and mostly at the expense of the American taxpayer. Will the Obama administration provide the Haitian people with the tools to build and maintain a new and productive life for themselves, or will they be taken under the wing of the United States as just another welfare state on the public dole and on the Democrat voting rolls?
How can we afford this when we can’t even pay for the unfunded programs this bloated government has already passed into law? - this drunk-on-spending government that never learned to put some reserve aside for a rainy day, but continues to spend money that we don’t have and most likely, never will have - a government that thinks we can spend our way out of a recession and into prosperity while job and income losses continue in the private sector.
And now we’re going to take on nation building out of a pile of rubble in Haiti? Have we completely lost our minds?

New IDF Delegation to Depart to Haiti Monday
(IsraelNN.com) An additional IDF rescue and medical aid team is scheduled to depart to Haiti Monday night and will include Home Front Command Maj. Gen. Yair Golan, Director General of the Ministry of Health Dr. Eytan Chai-Am, and Surgeon General, Brig. Gen. Nachman Ash.
The delegation will deliver relief reinforcements that include medicine and additional equipment and will examine the needs of the IDF medical staff on the scene.

Kryce Dr. Jennifer Lee Ashton, an American doctor working at a United Nations medical facility, is coordinating efforts with the Home Front Command and met on Sunday with IDF Field Hospital Commander, Col. Itzik Kryce. The field hospital established by the IDF is one of the most advanced and includes a medical lab, pharmacy and an x-ray
center. Twenty-five life-saving surgeries and three births, one of which was the delivery of a 1.8kilogram (4-pound) premature baby, have been carried out. Nine American volunteers from Los Angeles joined the Israeli delegation in the field hospital on Monday in addition to the ongoing cooperation with United Nations forces and other search and rescue units in the disaster zone.
Two rescue crews led by the commanders of the Home Front Command Search and Rescue Unit are also operating in the disaster-stricken area in cooperation with local residents
Huckabee Praises US Aid to Haiti, World Ignores Israel's
by Hillel Fendel
Published: 01/18/10, 11:12 AM / Last Update: 01/18/10, 11:35 AM
(IsraelNN.com) Mike Huckabee, past and likely future candidate for president of the United States, has praised American efforts in and for Haiti, and lashed out at critics and enemies of the United States who stand by and do nothing. The former Arkansas governor's remarks brought out in bold relief how Israel’s disproportionate aid to Haiti is ignored by the world.
Speaking on his FoxNews television program, Huckabee noted that “once again, in the face of a horrible human tragedy, it’s Americans who show up first, do the most, and expect the least in return. When it comes to a time of human tragedy,” Huckabee continued, “it’s the United States that will export its most precious commodity – its generosity. Within hours of the horrific earthquake that hit Haiti, Americans were pouring record donations into the relief efforts… The U.S. military dispatched ships, planes and thousands of personnel… American relief workers lined up to go to Haiti and risked death and disease to help people they don’t even know.”
“I realize that other countries are helping and providing resources – but the next time some pipsqueak punk politician like [Venezuelan dictator] Hugo Chavez or Iran’s nutjob of a president Ahmoud Medinajad [sic] whines about how evil we are, we ought to tell them to put up or shut up.”
“… When the earthquake struck, American went to Haiti. As for our critics, they can go to hell.”
As for Israel’s relief efforts to Haiti, they include the following:
- A field hospital, the only hospital in operation, with 40 doctors, 25 nurses, paramedics, a pharmacy, a children's ward, a radiology department, an intensive care unit, an emergency room, two operating rooms, a surgical department, an internal department and a maternity ward. The hospital can treat approximately 500 patients each day, and in addition will perform preliminary surgeries.
- A search-and-rescue team, which has rescued about five people from under the rubble.
- 220 personnel in total
- Dozens of truckloads of medical and logistical equipment
Latest reports are that the IDF Medical Corps have treated some 200 injured people in Haiti, performed ten life-saving surgeries and saved the lives of 140 others. On Sunday night, a resident of Port-au-Prince gave birth to a boy at the Israeli field hospital. In appreciation and gratitude, his mother decided to name her new son “Israel” in honor of the country that helped her.
See video of new Haitian baby "Israel" and of IDF Rescue of Man in Haiti
The director of the Haiti field hospital, Col. Dr. Itzik Reis, explained that the IDF delegation is also giving assistance "to people from emergency crews from all over the world, who simply are not capable of dealing with everyone who needs help and giving them treatment. For example, when we understood that the Dominican team is not set up to provide full treatment, we created an order by which they stabilize the patients and we give them the remainder of the treatment.”
Other Israeli relief operations in Haiti include:
- A six-man ZAKA rescue unit, which worked for 38 consecutive hours and succeeded in pulling eight students alive from the rubble of the collapsed university.
- IsraAID, which sent a planeload of food and medical equipment.
- "Latet" (To Give) – a 15-member mission to Haiti, including three physicians, three nurses, and three paramedics.

Chavez says U.S. occupying Haiti in name of aid
CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez on Sunday accused the United States of using the earthquake in Haiti as a pretext to occupy the devastated Caribbean country and offered to send fuel from his OPEC nation.
"I read that 3,000 soldiers are arriving, Marines armed as if they were going to war. There is not a shortage of guns there, my God. Doctors, medicine, fuel, field hospitals, that's what the United States should send," Chavez said on his weekly television show. "They are occupying Haiti undercover."
"On top of that, you don't see them in the streets. Are they picking up bodies? ... Are they looking for the injured? You don't see them. I haven't seen them. Where are they?"
Chavez promised to send as much gasoline as Haiti needs for electricity generation and transport.
A perennial foe of U.S. "imperialism," Chavez said he did not wish to diminish the humanitarian effort made by the United States and was only questioning the need for so many troops.
The United States is sending more than 5,000 Marines and soldiers to Haiti, and a hospital ship is due to arrive later this week.
The country's president said U.S. troops would help keep order on Haiti's increasingly lawless streets.
Venezuela has sent several planes to Haiti with doctors, aid and some soldiers. A Russia-Venezuela mission was set to leave Venezuela on Monday carrying aid on Russian planes.
Chavez said Venezuela's planes were the first to land in Haiti after Tuesday's 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which wrecked the capital Port-Au-Prince and killed as many as 200,000 people.

The measure of a man (G.W.Bush)
AmericanThinker.com
During the Henry Gates Officer Crowley racial controversy there was a telling picture of Crowley assisting a disabled Henry Gates as both walked a few paces behind the ever haughty and imperious Barack Obama. As Obama was strutting before the cameras championing racial equality, the Officer, who had been portrayed as a racist by Gates, relinquished pride and exhibited compassion for his accuser. If what Michelle Obama professes is the truth and "actions speak louder than words," the picture of Crowley compassionately aiding and guiding Gates down the Rose Garden steps said a mouthful. Officer Crowley's empathy, as compared to Barack Obama's self-obsessed concern, was evident with out a word.
Yesterday, America witnessed a similar display of humbleness. George W. Bush, criticized, mocked, humiliated, blamed and dishonored by both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, put the needs of the Haitian people before personal feelings and pride.
One of the many thousands of things Obama demeaned G.W. Bush for was his handling of Katrina. Sharply criticizing the ex-President Obama vowed,"We must ensure that the failures of the past are never repeated." Then Obama has the unmitigated audacity to call the supposed failed hurricane president in to assist in the relief effort to Haiti, a disaster of mass Biblical proportion. If Obama believed G.W. Bush was such a failure during Katrina, why enlist a bumbler in the Haitian effort? Or was Obama in need of an inclusive photo op before Tuesday's special election in Massachusetts?
Not only did Bush respond to Obama's invitation to assist the Haitian people, the former President "heaped burning coals upon Obama's head" by respectfully commending the standing President for a "swift and timely response to the disaster." Quite the opposite from the fiery darts Obama has been lobbing for years in Bush's direction.
For political expediency Obama continues to diminish G.W. Bush in the minds of the American people. In response, the ex-President reciprocated by building up Barack Obama's wounded reputation before the nation. George W. Bush behaved like Officer Crowley; only this time Bush assisted a political cripple who may talk a good talk, but if you watch closely has trouble walking without a crutch.
In the Rose Garden lofty rhetoric came from Barack Obama before heading off to Massachusetts to campaign for Martha Coakley, while action was displayed on the part of George Bush. To even stand there in the company of unrelenting accusers means that Bush possesses the strength of character to put aside demeaning accusations and refuse to dwell on personal feelings in order to address the needs of a devastated nation.
Speaking about America's commitment to rebuild the Gulf Region three years after the hurricane, Obama did not squander an opportunity bolster himself by demeaning Bush. Professing faith in skills and abilities far above the Bush administration's failures Obama said, "The American people are watching. They need this plan to work. They expect to see the money that they've earned they've worked so hard to earn - spent in its intended purposes without waste, without inefficiency, without fraud," which is pretty much what Obama says about everything.
In the meantime, with humility and grace G.W. Bush's compassion and concern for the dignity of the dead and the dire circumstances of the living surpass the awkwardness of having to appear in the Rose Garden next to someone whose main concern is self.George W. Bush, like the modest Officer Crowley, seems more than willing to walk in the shadow of hubris if it means helping Haiti. Yesterday, George W. Bush illustrated to the people Barack claims are closely watching---the grace and character of a deferential man of integrity.

Obama holds no surprises for me. It was all clearly stated in his campaign speech to AIPAC. In the first part of his speech, he states his knowledge of Holocaust denial and Arab rejection. In the second part, he advises Israel to sit down with Holocaust deniers and long-standing rejectionists to talk peace. The 7 years of the Oslo Peace Farce, the 19 years of Egyptian and Jordan occupation, and the trashed "two-state solution" of 1947 evaporated from Obama's mind faster than ether spilled on a hot summer's day sidewalk, assuming it was ever in his mind in the first place.
