A huge explosion and fire gutted a four-story residential building in the Israeli seaside town of Netanya after midnight Friday, June 16. Large teams of paramedics and fire fighters attended the scene. Three people were killed on the spot and another 50 injured. Firefighters swept the building room by room to rescue people trapped in the building from which there was a strong smell of gas. The building is located on Independence Square. The top floors are residential with restaurants and shops on the ground floor. Police are investigating what caused a gas canister to explode and destroy the building.
