In a special ceremony that was held in New York on Thursday, Defense Ministry Director-General Udi Shani signed an agreement that will see Israel purchasing its first squadron of F-35 stealth fighter jets from the US for $2.75 billion.

The American side was represented by Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs, Heidi Honecker Grant, and Vice Admiral David Venlet, head of the Pentagon's F-35 program.

As part of the agreement, Israel is expected to receive F-35 stealth fighters from the US between the years 2015 and 2017, at a cost of $96 million per aircraft. This includes engines, simulators, spare parts, and maintenance.

According to a report inAviation Week last month, the F-35 will have Israeli add-ons, such as altering the cockpit interfaces to use the IDF communications, control and intelligence systems, installing Israeli equipment on its main computer, and installing a detachable fuel tank that would make the plane easier to detect when attached, but would extend the aircraft's range.

The purchase agreement was approved by the Israeli government, the Knesset and the security establishment.  Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak gave their final approval for the purchase last month, at which time Netanyahu said: “Purchasing this fighter jet, the most technically advanced on earth, is a significant step in strengthening Israel's military prowess.”

Shani said during Thursday's signing ceremony: “This is an historical event and a new era for Israel’s defense and strategic strength, as well as for maintaining the Israeli army’s advantage over its challenges, in circles near and far over many years. This is in addition to the tremendous significance to the national economy, as is reflected in the commitment by the manufacturer to make purchases worth billions of dollars from Israeli industries.”

He added that Israel intends to purchase even more stealth fighter jets in the future, and said that the agreement “is another expression of the strategic alliance and friendly relations with the United States and its commitment to Israel’s qualitative advantage.”

Tom Burbage, Vice President of Lockheed Martin, the company which manufactures the F-35 Lighting II aircraft, said on Thursday that his company is “extremely satisfied by the Israeli government decision to move forward with the acquisition process,” and added that the agreement is “an additional step in the long lasting relationship between Lockheed Martin and the State of Israel. The Lightning II will strengthen Israel’s national security, from both the military and industrial sides.”

Global Tower - By Manhigut Yehudit

Moshe Feiglin
Manhigut Yehudit
29 Tishrei, 5771 (Oct. 7)

And all the earth was of one language and one speech. (From this week's Torah portion, Noach, Genesis 11:1)
It is impossible not to draw parallels between the opening of the story of the Tower of Babel and the modern global village. Once again, the entire world is of one language and one speech. Everyone is connected to everyone, speaking to everyone and at least in the Western world, everyone is motivated by the same ideas. Ultimately, this uniformity leads to a war against the Creator and to the re-scattering of humanity.

We are at the threshold of a new age. It could be that we are witnessing the waning of the modern nation state. Europe and the US are bankrupt. After an era of swift economic growth accompanied by moral decadence, the unavoidable stage of disintegration is upon us.

And they said, "Let us build for us a city and tower and its top will be in heaven, and we will make for us a name, lest we be scattered on the face of the earth. (Genesis 11:4)

The Tower of Babel was not a temple to G-d. It was a temple to man.

The Western nations that have made man the focal point of existence are morally bankrupt and have lost their founding ethos. As a result, they are also economically bankrupt. Only a small bit of foresight is necessary to understand that the Western economies do not have any real ability to stand on their feet again. It is quite possible that we will also witness their political disintegration. Time and again, entities that are not states defeat the ever-weakening nation-states.

In light of this reality, Israel must develop a long-term strategy that will take into account a completely different world structure than the one to which we have been accustomed in the modern era.

Shabbat Shalom,

Moshe Feiglin

Obama’s Advice: Put Terrorist Attacks in “Perspective”

Source/link:  Expose Obama
October 7th, 2010
Ben Johnson, Floyd Reports

The Pentagon long ago made a cliché of the phrase, “Failure is not an option.” Barack Obama’s anti-terrorism crew believes failure is not only optional but inevitable – and Americans need to get over it.

Michael Leiter, head of the National Counterterrorism Center, told a conference on intelligence reform, “We’re not going to have a perfect batting average, and it’s important that Americans understand that.”

Not to worry, though; the opening line of the story states Leiter believes we can bounce back from another 9/11 or two. The key is to take the terrorist blasts with a happy face. “It’s important that we approach this with national resilience that in fact shows that this country is not going to be defeated by” terrorists, Leiter told the (presumably) increasingly nervous crowd. Instead, we must tell those nasty Muslim fanatics they will not be “cutting into the fabric of our society.” What we have to do, Leiter concluded, is “put the threat in perspective.”

Were this one loose-lipped, harebrained security official, it would be concerning enough. Unfortunately, this seems to be official policy.

Obama told Bob Woodward during a July interview for his new book, Obama’s Wars, “We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever…we absorbed it, and we are stronger.”
He could only call a nuclear attack on U.S. soil “a potential game changer.” In the president’s mind, a mushroom cloud over Hollywood is no different than a turnover in fourth quarter.
President George W. Bush, for his (considerable) failings, vowed to wake up every morning and go to sleep every night thinking about America’s safety – and he did so every day from September 11, 2001, to January 20, 2009. Barack Obama and his “defense” team seem obsessed with preparing the American people for a terrorist assault and preprogramming them not to take it too seriously. Only redistributing other people’s money excites his passion.
His continual signs of weakness invite a deadly response.
My note:
Hmm!  It appears that the only ones who take terrorism seriously are the Islamic terrorists!  How many times since Obama took office has America had "close calls" with terrorism?  Well, some were successful, such as the Ft. Hood shooter; but who's counting?  Certainly not the Obama administration.  No safety at the borders of the U.S. and Mexico; downtown NYC almost blown up a few months ago; ... the terrorist motto is "If at first you do not succeed, try, try again" and we can be certain they will keep on trying!  The more Obama bows to Islam, the more Islam attempts to hit our shores, our cities, our planes.
Perhaps it is time to remove the Muslim organization i.e. CAIR out of the advisory department within the White House.   Time to stop giving Hamas terrorists tours of America's security through the FBI.  (Lord, help us all!)

‘Smart’ Bill Clinton manages to look like an idiot

What could possibly go wrong?

What could possibly go wrong?
Some things just make me tired. After everything that’s happened, we are still hearing this kind of crap from supposedly intelligent, informed (and important) people:
Former US president Bill Clinton said Tuesday that solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would take away much of the motivation for terrorism around the world.
He described the long-running conflict as the key problem in the region and said resolving it would have a knock on effect [sic] that could result in Syria ending its support for the Lebanese militant group Hizbullah and Iran turning back its controversial nuclear program.
“It will take about half the impetus in the whole world — not just the region, the whole world — for terror away,” he told an audience of Egyptian businessmen from the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. “It would have more impact by far than anything else that could be done.”

Does he — can he — believe that the Iranian nuclear program is in any way related to the situation of the Palestinian Arabs? Can he have missed the clear intention of the Iranian regime to control the region and its oil resources, and by the way, to destabilize the regime of Mubarak or his successor in Egypt?

Does he think that Syrian ambitions in Lebanon have anything to do with the Palestinians?
Does he think that the Palestinian issue motivates al-Qaeda or the Muslim Brotherhood in their efforts to banish Western influence from the Mideast and replace conservative regimes with radical Islamist ones?

Not to mention that ‘peace’ according to the usual formula is wholly unobtainable! Check out this list of 21 elephants in the room that prevent it.
But that’s not all. On another topic,
Weighing in on the controversy surrounding an Islamic Center being built in New York two blocks from the Sept. 11 attacks, Clinton suggested dedicating the proposed building to the 60 Muslim victims of the attacks.
“I think the decision to dedicate this center to the memory of those who lost their lives on that day would send a set of messages that would if not make this crisis go away, would dramatically reduce it,” he said.

The ‘crisis’ is that a majority of New Yorkers (and of Americans) think that the center should not be built in that location, either out of respect for the feelings of the families of the victims (all the victims) or because they have a suspicion that the center is intended to be — and will be perceived as — a triumphalist monument to the defeat of the US by radical Islam. It’s hardly likely that dedicating it to the Muslim victims of the attack would defuse these issues.

Possibly the AP report is incorrect and Clinton meant to suggest dedicating it to all the victims. Even so, the fact that it is a Muslim structure built on the scene of a successful attack in the name of Islam remains. There is one simple way to “make the crisis go away,” and that is to move the proposed structure by a few blocks. Of course, the fact that the promoters won’t agree to do this is telling.
I suppose that what this proves is that if you are a political celebrity like Bill Clinton, you can’t just tell every audience what you think they want to hear. Someone will report it and then, in the wider world, you’ll look like an idiot.

Israel-Palestinian Talks: It’s the U.S. Election Stupid!

THE OBAMA DECEPTION

The Rubin Report
By Barry Rubin

The New York Times tries to figure out the answer to the question I asked: Why is President Barack Obama not only putting so much prestige into quickly resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict but doing so at a moment when the prospects for success look so minimal?

And on top of that:

Why is he asking Israel for a two-month, one-time, non-renewable freeze of construction on West Bank Jewish settlements?

Why is he offering Israel so much to do something that will lead to two months of talks after which the negotiations will certainly collapse?

Why is he offering the Palestinian Authority so much to stay in the talks for eight weeks and then walk out, no hard feelings?

The headline is, “Risks and Advantage in U.S. Effort in Mideast.” So what’s the possible advantage? A big breakthrough to peace in eight weeks?

What possible gain could be made by holding just four (count `em, four) short meetings and then ending the freeze and letting everyone walk away, keeping the goodies the administration has given them?

Naturally, the Times blames the problems only on Israel, or in the words of Mark Landler’s article, “With the negotiations deadlocked over the issue of Jewish settlements.” But they are also deadlocked over the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) evident desire to find some excuse to get out of negotiations that it stalled until the previous nine-month freeze was within hours of ending.

Somehow the reporters never seem to get the story about how the PA daily broadcasts, teaches, and sermonizes that all of Israel is part of Palestine. As in the repeatedly broadcast geography lesson on official PA television:

"The West Bank and Gaza have another section in Palestine which is the Palestinian coast that spreads along the [Mediterranean] sea, from....Ashkelon in the south, until Haifa, in the Carmel Mountains. Haifa is a well-known Palestinian port. [Haifa] enjoyed a high status among Arabs and Palestinians especially before it fell to the occupation [Israel] in 1948. To its north, we find Acre. East of Acre, we reach a city with history and importance, the city of Tiberias, near a famous lake, the Sea of Galilee. Jaffa, an ancient coastal city, is the bride of the sea, and Palestine's gateway to the world."

Still, that’s not what’s most important here. This article is about the mystery of why the Obama Administration is so obsessed about making progress (or, more accurately, to pretend to be making progress) in the next few weeks.

Landler continues:

“But even if [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] signs on, some analysts predict that the two sides will end up in the same cul-de-sac in two months. Mr. Abbas, several people said, has told associates that he feels that he has no choice but to keep pushing for a freeze, largely because the Obama administration made settlements the centerpiece of its first 10 months of Middle East diplomacy.”

At least we clear see how much of this is Obama’s fault for making settlements the critical issue. Yet after interviewing the usual suspects, the author never gets close to guessing at the administration’s motivation or strategy or goal.

Indeed, it accepts the administration’s framework. Perhaps the fact that the two sides don’t want to alienate Washington would lead them to keep talking? But the Times doesn’t see the brontosaurus, the blue whale (the word elephant is insufficient here) in the small one-bedroom apartment:

Why two months? Why two months? Why two months? (There’s not only a blue whale but also an echo in here.)

If I were telling this as a joke I would scream the punchline:

BECAUSE THERE’S AN ELECTION, STUPID!

Nope, no domestic politics going on here! Yes, we know the big issue is jobs and the economy. On foreign policy, administration supporters will talk about making America popular again, withdrawing from Iraq, and standing firm in Afghanistan.

Yet the administration has made the Arab-Israeli conflict its principal international issue. What possible diplomatic success can it find to put on display? And how would it look if the “peace process” would collapse and it could be pointed out that Obama wrecked any chance by his emphasis on settlements and distancing from Israel?

Hmm, maybe it would be enough to keep Israel and the Palestinian Authority just to keep pretending there will be more negotiations for another 2.5 weeks?

Convoy song
Arik Einstein
Lyrics: Eli Mohar
Composed by Greek folk

There are three additional performance this song
We spoke numerous languages
And it hardly at all Do not Know
We left very many places
Only one place we wanted and loved
We left very many places
And the country, the country came.

Convoy continues
Last century
Far has been coming out
Farmers and pioneers
Worked worked hard
Without seeing the end of the road
We are now
Not small and we
Not continue without us
This is our adventure.

Ghettos and camps bent
To the swamps and wilderness we
End of the evening, Russian and Polish
We lit the light of the Dimona Degania.
End of the evening, Russian and Polish
We lit the light of the Dimona Degania.

Any visible
And with all the problems
With the earth got created
Language who fell asleep
Again started to wake up
And talks and talks
Around the storm pollution
Great difficulty and sorrow
But what joy
There's courage, there's more power.

How Israel is growing around us
Is stronger than all our flaws
And more will be blooming Negev
And will take care of the old man will be happy.
And more will be blooming Negev
And will take care of the old man will be happy.

Any visible
And with all the problems
Around the storm pollution
Great difficulty and sorrow
But what cheer
There's courage, there's more power.
Poetry continues

Israel - You can say "no" to the US" - stated Moshe Arens

Tuesday, October 05, 2010

"You can say 'no' to the US"

Former Defense Minister and Israeli ambassador to the US,Moshe Arens:
Former Defense and Foreign Minister, Prof. Moshe Arens, said on Monday that he believes it is possible to refuse US requests regarding the construction freeze.

Speaking to Arutz 7, Arens said: "The Americans respect us when we stand up for our principles. They do not respect capitulations."
I'm all in favor of standing up to the US and not extending the 'settlement freeze.' But why didn't the government in which he was Defense Minister do the same in early 1991. Or is he perhaps being regretful that he and Yitzchak Shamir did not stand up to the US ten, because the result was the Madrid Conference and Bush I putting a stop on the loan guarantees?

Hmmm.

Security cabinet discusses readiness as Kassams hit South

The Jerusalem Post

None hurt in latest attacks; interior minister, justice minister will be instructed to take measures for home-owners to reinforce buildings against missiles.

The security cabinet on Wednesday gathered to discuss strengthening the home front's readiness for various emergency scenarios.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai and Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman will be instructed to take the necessary measures for apartment owners to reinforce their buildings against missile attacks and earthquakes.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that home front security was yet another example of "bureaucratic obstacles" faced by Israel

"Reinforcing homes is a cogent interest and in the current situation, there is a tangible impediment to the ability to provide citizens with better protection," he said. "Therefore, the Security Cabinet decision must be implemented forthwith."

The meeting was held as two Kassam rockets exploded near the Gaza border on Wednesday, though the attacks caused no casualties or damage.

One exploded in an open field near a kibbutz in the Eshkol region, and another landed on the Palestinian side of the Gaza border fence.

Note:
I think the EU, UNHR and the West needs to address this issue immediately!  How is it that Hamas is allowed to continually shoot missals into the homes of Israeli citizens and these acts of TERRORISM go unheeded by the world?  Is it because the mindset is "let Israel handle these attacks from Muslim terrorist organizations, as we have bigger fish to fry"?  Really?  From the looks of the news and comments from Western leaders - most recently, from Bill Clinton -  the only fish they wish to fry is "Israel's right to build homes in Judea and Samaria"!  Talk about an upside down world! How is it that our government leaders cannot focus on real issues facing democracies - such as, "Terrorism caused throughout the world by Islamic terrorists"!.

Meanwhile, Israeli citizens are prisoners in their own homes - cameras, security gates, bomb shelters, "safe" rooms, all to protect themselves from the terror that strikes Israel daily.

Before talking about "peace" with Palestinians, perhaps everyone should begin by preventing this Hamas organization from attacking Israel - attacks by Palestinian leaders in Hamas/Gaza.
