Whoops: Muslim charity praised by British PM and Prince of Wales under investigation for funneling money to Hamas-linked groups

"Never mind"

The juxtaposition of "charitable" work with jihad should surprise no one. It has long been a trademark of a variety of jihadist groups like Hamas and Hizballah, among others. In the West, the two are mutually exclusive. Charitable groups and aid organizations are understood to be non-combatant in nature, and -- crucially -- that affords them special privileges and access even in war zones to carry out humanitarian work. But that Western cultural and ethical distinction must not be projected where it does not hold sway.

After all, "War is deceit," and in this case, several dignitaries have been fooled. "Muslim Aid charity under investigation," by Andrew Gilligan for the Telegraph, April 3 (thanks to Sr. Soph):

According to its own accounts, Muslim Aid paid £325,000 to the Islamic University of Gaza, where leading Hamas figures teach, and £13,998 to the al-Ihsan Charitable Society, designated by the US government as a "sponsor of terrorism" and a front for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group.
Security sources also claim that Muslim Aid has helped channel a further £210,600 to six other organisations in the Gaza Strip since July 2009, all of which they say are also linked to Hamas.
Despite repeated approaches for comment over more than a week, Muslim Aid has refused to deny these claims.
In a statement, the Charity Commission said: "We take very seriously allegations of links between charities and terrorist activity, and consider funding of terrorist organisations to be a 'zero tolerance' issue.
The Commission has opened an investigation into Muslim Aid in light of these allegations and is working with the charity to address the issues raised."
Muslim Aid is banned from the West Bank by the Israeli government, which says it is a member of the Union of Good, an alliance of charities that raise money for Hamas. Hamas is banned throughout the EU as a designated terrorist organisation. (Oh, please, inform President Obama! Let him know that his contributions in the MILLIONS that he gives to Hamas/Gaza is being given to a terrorist organization! ..BeeSting)
In a video address to Muslim Aid's 25th anniversary dinner last month, Mr Brown praised the charity's "valuable work".
He said: "I wish Muslim Aid and its passionate and committed staff and supporters the very best for another 25 years of achievement."
The Prince sent a message saying that "our country is incredibly fortunate to be able to count on organisations like Muslim Aid, who bring not only help, but hope to those most in need".
Muslim Aid, based at the hardline East London Mosque, has close links to the Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE), a fundamentalist Muslim group based in the same offices.
Muslim Aid raised more than £24 million last year and has been given at least £830,000 of public money. It claims to serve humanity "regardless of political affiliation" and only supports lawful organisations.
However, one foreign security source said: "We are opening our eyes on them.
The accounts also show that Muslim Aid, which calls itself an "international development" charity, paid nearly £175,000, which according to the charity's aims would be intended for "disaster relief", to the UK-based lobbying group, the Muslim Council of Britain, another body closely influenced by the IFE. The MCB has no role in disaster relief.
Muslim Aid was unavailable for comment but has previously said that it works only with "lawful and legitimate" partners.

Whose law? After all, they're getting closer to being able to take their pick in Britain nowadays.

So, the Chairman of Muslim Aid, the man who thinks "“Death, perhaps, is a bit too easy ..." for Salaman Rushdie, just happens to be the ex General Secretary of the MCB (Muslim Council of Britain). The Muslim Council of Britain received £175,000 from Muslim Aid, who are descibed as a charity which "... provides emergency relief in crisis situations across the world ...". Muslim aid and the MCB, which is hardly in need of "emergency relief", both have links to the fundamentalist Muslim group, IFE (Islamic Forum of Europe).

What a tangled web!

Perhaps that's why the Prince praised it?

What is "Muslim charity"? It is usually translated as "Zakat".

The Qur'an (Sura Al-Tauba: 60) classifies the due recipients of Zakat under the following eight categories.

"Zakat is for the poor, and the needy and those who are employed to administer and collect it, and the new converts, and for those who are in bondage, and in debt and *service of the cause of Allah*, and for the wayfarers, a duty ordained by Allah, and Allah is the All-Knowing, the Wise". [emphasis mine—GI]

And what is "service in the cause of Allah"? Let's see; the following is a list of the above:

According to the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (the Islamic Religious Council in Singapore—MUIS), Zakat is distributed among 8 asnaf (categories) of people, namely:

1. Fakir - One who has neither material possessions nor means of livelihood.
2. Miskin - One with insufficient means of livelihood to meet basic needs.
3. Amil - One who is appointed to collect zakat.
4. Muallaf - One who converts to Islam.
5. Riqab - One who wants to free himself from bondage or the shackles of slavery. (In Singapore, zakat due to this category of recipients is spent on those who need help to pursue education or to improve their standard of living).
6. Gharmin - One who is in debt (money borrowed to meet basic, halal expenditure).
7. Fisabillillah - One who fights for the cause of Allah.
8. Ibnus Sabil - One who is stranded in journey.

Please note #7—"one who fights for the cause of Allah"—in other words, a *Jihadist*. Muslim charity is *meant* to fund Jihad—that is in fact one of its primary purposes.

What does "fisabillillah" actually translate as?

It's difficult to find much in English, Mike, and the spelling doesn't seem to be standardized—but here's "Fisabilillah (in the way of Allah)" from Islamic Awakening. The descriptions sound like "Jihadist" to me:

"Muslim charity" need to add this to my list of favored oxymorons.

Talking about morons, no surprise that Price Charles is fooled - God help the Church of England if he ever takes the reins.

Thank god for QEII, because once she's gone there's no knowing how long it'll be before her prize fool decides the flag of Islam might look nice atop the town house.

"4. Muallaf - One who converts to Islam."

Muallaf - One who recently embraced Islam.
