"Israel will not tolerate an attack on its borders" ...

Syria uses Nakba Day as excuse to infiltrate Israel's border

The bloody events of the so called "Nakba Day" have been planned for a while. For months now the 3rd Palestinian Intifada movement has been promoting their anti Israel event on May 15th. At noon today after a 63 seconds siren, thousands march towards Israel borders from Syria, Lebanon and Gaza. The Syria-Israel border was infiltrated while in Lebanon and Gaza violent protests were held from behind the border.
Nakba Day is a Palestinian mourning day. It marks the day Israel was established and many Palestinians ran away from the fighting zone. Nakba Day has nothing to do with the so called Israeli "occupation" or 1967 borders. It's rejection of Israel's basic right to exist, as indicated by its being held on the day
of Israel's Declaration of Independence.
As a pure democracy Israel believes in the right to demonstrate peacefully, whatever the object of the protest. Just yesterday Nakba Day protests were held in Jaffa, a cluster of Tel Aviv, inside mainland Israel. The protests went through uninterrupted. Across the West Bank, protests were held today with no major incidents.
But on the Syrian and Lebanese borders different powers are at play. Assad which has no problem shooting on Syrian protesters, obviously cares nothing about the Palestinian cause. However, Nakba Day is a great excuse to create a diversion - attack Israel and unite the people against Israel. Maybe Syrians will concentrate on fighting Israel and allow Assad to regain control over internal riots.
When so called Palestinians on the Syrian side of border penetrated the border into Israel today, they left the IDF no choice but to defend Israel's borders. This was not a peaceful demonstration. These were not unarmed citizens. This was a planned attempt to attack Israel with the full consent of Assad's regime and the Syria army.
Here is Prime Minister Netanyahu's reaction to the events on the Syrian border today.
All of us in Giyus.org hope these events will be contained and that peace and quiet will be restored - but the message should be heard loud and clear - Israel will not tolerate an attack on its borders.

"Today thousands of people gathered along the border fence between Syria and Israel in the area of Majdal Shams. Some of them broke through the fence and infiltrated the Israeli side. Similar attempts took place along our borders with Gaza and Lebanon. I instructed the Israel Defense Forces to act with maximum restraint but to stop the infiltrations of our borders. We hope that calm and quiet will soon be restored, but let no one be mistaken -- we are determined to protect our borders and our sovereignty. It is important to point out that these events are taking place on a day which marks the establishment of the State of Israel. The leaders of these violent demonstrations have personally stated that their struggle is not over the '67 lines, but rather to undermine the very existence of the State of Israel, which they define as a disaster which must be corrected. It is important that we face reality with our eyes wide open and know with whom we are dealing and what we are facing."
