1. In January 2010, the Homefront Command and Medical Corps of the IDF sent an aid mission to Haiti following a deadly earthquake that claimed the lives of over 200,000 people. The IDF set up a field hospital in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince and over two weeks the IDF delegation treated around 1,000 people and performed more than 300 surgeries.
2. Over the past six months, the IDF, in cooperation with other Israeli security and medical services, dispatched aid delegations to both Colombia, which suffered from mudslides in December 2010, and Christchurch, New Zealand, which was hit by an earthquake in February 2011.
3. In 1999, the Homefront Command sent an aid delegation to Turkey following a strong earthquake that killed around 17,000 people and injured tens of thousands more. The IDF delegation was able to rescue 12 people alive from the rubble and also extricated around 140 bodies.
4. In 2006, an 80-person Homefront Command delegation flew to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where a five-story building had collapsed. The delegation aided in the rescue of trapped occupants.
5. Most of the aid missions dispatched by the IDF to various parts of the world are led by the Homefront Command's National Search and Rescue Unit, a reserve unit composed of veteran search and rescue personnel who train regularly to maintain their professional capabilities.
