Heavy Snow Raises Concerns Of Roof Collapses
Homeowners, Business Work To Clear Snow From Roofs
NASHUA, N.H. -- Two days of snowfall this week on top of several storms earlier in the season have led to increasing concerns of roof collapses.
A barn in Allenstown collapsed from the weight of the snow Wednesday morning. Fire officials said a tractor and junk equipment were inside the building, but no one was injured.
Barn owner Moe Laplume said he is now seeing what the weight of winter can do so he's changing how he handles snow.
Students in Seabrook got another day off Thursday because of a buildup of snow on the metal roofs of the schools there. Officials said the elementary and middle schools would also be closed Friday.Across the state, residents and businesses were evaluating their roofs. Landscaper Holly Suojanen was clearing a roof in Concord.
"Just to be safe rather than sorry," she said. "It's a lot easier to pay a landscaper to clear the roof than deal with damage inside the house and so forth." more (includes video)
