Iranian Delegation to Visit Gaza? - June 19, 2010 planned day for visit ..

June 14th, 2010

Both Debka and the Jerusalem Post are reporting that a group of Iranian parliamentarians want to visit Gaza to see the delivery of the Iranian aid due by ship in the near future.
Two Iranian cargoes of humanitarian aid for Gaza will leave next week and one of them will be shipped through Istanbul, the official Iranian news agency, IRNA reported Monday. The announcement quoted Mohammad Ali Nouraee, an aid official, who said one cargo will be sent to Turkey, and then shipped to Gaza from Istanbul while the other will leave from the port of Khorramshahr. … Lawmaker Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash was quoted as saying that he and two other members of the Majlis, the Iranian parliament, would travel to Gaza by way of Egypt later this week.
These excerpts from the Jerusalem Post article make the delegation seem quite innocuous. The Debka article is somewhat different.
Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and foreign affairs and security committee chairman Alaeddin Boroujerdi are preparing an epic descent on the Gaza Strip next Saturday, June 19 and a tour of the Israeli border debkafile’s Iranian sources reveal. Tehran has applied to Cairo for visas for 200 Iranian lawmakers, leaning hard on Cairo for its assent - up to and including President Hosni Mubarak.
Analysis. Debka points to Iran attempting to regain the spotlight from Turkey. There is indeed a public relations motive here. But Nasrallah just went to Ankara for a coordination meeting with Hezbollah, Iran and Turkey. How much of this Iranian visit is actually coordination between Iran, Hezbollah, Turkey and Hamas?

The biggest news from all of this is that these people are not afraid to be seen together. They are not afraid of what such appearances will mean, or might have meant, if they occurred during a different US administration. If they are not afraid of the consequences of going public, exactly what will it take to derail their program to destroy the “Little Satan” and the “Big Satan” … US?!

My notes:
If I remember correctly, Egypt was building a steel wall to prevent Hamas from smuggling in weapons received from Iran.  Also, Egypt has a sea blockade to prevent material/aid from entering Gaza.  Therefore, how successful will this group be petitoning Egypt for 200 Visas for Iranians?!  Only time will tell ...
