The Murder of Rachel Corrie: Did the ISM Set Her Up to be Killed?

The International Solidarity Movement expressed motives for wanting peace activist Rachel Corrie dead.
by Bill Levinson

We use the word “murder” only because the International Solidarity Movement has accused Israel of murdering peace activist Rachel Corrie, who died after she knelt in front of an IDF bulldozer. When an accusation of murder is on the table, it is very poor judgment to express motives for wanting the decedent dead, but two members of the International Solidarity Movement and a Hamas terrorist have done exactly that. Let’s begin with Joseph Smith, one of the witnesses who contends that Rachel Corrie was “murdered.”

The spirit that she died for is worth a life. This idea of resistance, this spirit of resisting this brutal occupying force, is worth anything. And many, many, many Palestinians give their lives for it all the time. So the life of one international, I feel, is more than worth the spirit of resisting oppression.

If Mr. Smith felt this way, we must ask why he did not throw himself in front of the bulldozer instead of standing by while this idealistic young woman did so and then, when it was clear that she was going to be run over, did nothing to pull her out of the bulldozer’s path. (His own account of the incident does not indicate any effort on his part or that of the other witnesses to rescue her when it was clear that her “direct action” was going horribly wrong and, as shown below, his highest priority was apparently to take photographs.) The bottom line is, however, that he expressed the fact that Rachel Corrie’s death was especially useful because she was an “international” as opposed to a Palestinian. Perhaps Rachel learned too late that, when you are more useful to your friends dead than alive, it is time to find new friends.

Nor is Joseph Smith the only ISM member who expressed a motive for wanting Rachel Corrie dead.

Recently, the Director of the Solidarity Movement, George Rishmawi, explained to the San Francisco Chronicle that the recruitment of American student volunteers is useful to the Palestinian Movement because “if some of these foreign volunteers get shot or even killed, then the international media will sit up and take notice.

A Hamas terrorist also gloated about how useful Rachel’s death was, and Hamas is known to be in the business of killing people.

“‘Her death serves me more than it served her,’ said one activist at a Hamas funeral yesterday. ‘…Her death will bring more attention than the other 2,000 martyrs.’”

So here we have it: two ISM members, including one who was present at Rachel Corrie’s fatal accident, and a Hamas terrorist all agreeing how much more useful Rachel is to them dead than alive. The ISM has raised the question of murder, and the ISM has expressed a motive for wanting the decedent dead. It speaks for itself.

“Making of a Martyr” adds,

The activists have compelling photographic evidence to support eyewitness claims that Corrie’s death was a deliberate, murderous mowing down of a unarmed protester. Dale watched as she knelt down in front of the bulldozer, perhaps 20 metres away, something the activists had done repeatedly that day as they had in the past. ‘The bulldozer went towards her, very slowly, she was fully in clear view, straight in front of them.’

As the bulldozer got closer, it pushed a mound of earth in front of its blade. The heap began to overtake Corrie so she stood up to climb up the mounting soil. ‘Unfortunately, she couldn’t keep her grip there and she started to slip down. You could see that she was in serious trouble, there was panic on her face as she was turning around,’ said Dale. ‘All the activists there were screaming, running towards the bulldozer, trying to get them to stop. But they just kept on going. ‘

The activists said the driver saw Corrie. ‘As the mound grew higher she climbed up, getting to eye level with the driver. He saw her in her fluorescent orange jacket. But he kept on going,’ Smith said.

A traumatised Smith raised his camera and took photographs: Rachel standing in front of the bulldozer; then her bloodied body being pulled from the freshly turned soil; being cradled in the arms of her friends.

‘If only they’d had a video camera,’ one Palestinian journalist lamented. ‘A film of the Israelis killing an American in cold blood would have ended the intifada.’

Res ipsa loquitur, the thing speaks for itself. Joseph Smith’s highest priority was apparently to take photographs, and a Palestinian journalist lamented not that Rachel Corrie had been killed but that her death could not be videotaped for posting to YouTube and similar venues.

WHEN YOU ARE MORE USEFUL TO YOUR FRIENDS DEAD THAN ALIVE, IT IS TIME TO FIND NEW FRIENDS.

The Murder of Rachel Corrie: Did the ISM Set Her Up to be Killed?

If so, it is the only humanitarian action that the ISM has ever taken.

The organization specializes in facilitating the murders of unarmed Jews, so if the ISM did arrange for one of its own to become martyred, let’s hope that an oft-recurring stratagem has been established.

Rachel Corrie is a martyr only in the eyes of the morally blind, which includes most of show business.

It may be that producing plays honoring her depravity will provide useful p.r. that advances the Palestinian cause, which is the slaughter of Jews.

However, one less gun-running scumbag (scumbaggette?) is now aiding Palestinian murderers, so I remain exhilarated that dear/sweet Rachel was plowed asunder by that gorgeous tractor.
