An update on this story -- and it's great news! The possibility that a Muslim in San Francisco could get involved in jihad terrorism is nil -- it is in fact less than nil, zero minus eight degrees, such that even to suggest the possibility that it could happen is an insult to the area Muslims, each and every one of whom is robustly patriotic!
So now that San Francisco is a Jihad-Free Zone, I guess all the airport security personnel will have to be laid off, eh? And the city probably would benefit from having fewer FBI and JTTF folks on the job. They will certainly be able to find jobs in the industries in the city that start to thrive as people flock there from areas that don't enjoy such assurances!
"San Francisco police chief apologizes for terrorism comments," from Bay City News Service, March 27:
San Francisco Police Chief George Gascon today apologized for remarks he made Thursday on the threat of terrorism that drew criticism from members of the city's Middle Eastern community.Gascon spoke at a breakfast at San Francisco's Ferry Building before construction and trade groups, at which he discussed a $412 million June 8 bond measure to build a new police headquarters and implement other seismic upgrades citywide.
According to Gascon, he also discussed possible terrorist threats to the headquarters at the Hall of Justice as another reason to support the measure. He said he mentioned domestic terrorism but also the threat of international terrorism from Yemen and Afghanistan, and also noted significant populations from those countries residing in the Bay Area.
Today, his office issued a statement apologizing "to those in the Arab, Middle Eastern, and Muslim communities who were offended by his comments yesterday."
"Chief Gascon did not intend to upset the community and he is mindful of the importance of cultural sensitivity, not only here in San Francisco, but nationally," the statement read.
The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American Islamic Relations said today that it, along with other local Arab and Muslim groups, sent a letter to Gascon in which they expressed disappointment.
The organization said they have asked the police chief to meet with leaders from the Arab and Muslim community in San Francisco to talk about possible negative impacts of his comments.
In a sane world, they would be meeting with him to discuss ways in which they could cooperate openly and fully with anti-terror efforts. But this ain't a sane world by a long shot.
Don't forget this incident from earlier this month:
3 Held in Alleged Anti-Gay BB Shooting in SF
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/03/04/BAV91CAGLG.DTL
Muslims shooting at gays in SF? And, it's as if no one cares. Where's the outrage? Chief Gascon has just proved which victim group trumps which: Muslims trump gays. Gays in SF should be very worried....
"Cultural sensitity" is am appalling phrase, and those who hear it without wincing have something wrong with them, though -- in a handful of instances -- what it attempts in such treacly fashion to suggest is not entirely wortjless or idiotic. But when "cultural sensitivity" is enrolled to describe the appeasement of Muslims demanding an apology from a police chief so that he, and others in law enforcement, will not again dare to make even the most obviously true of comments -- about the possibility of Muslim terrorists blowing up a building in an American city -- this is surely one of worst uses of that phrase that can be found, anywhere. I hate to think what pressure was applied to Chief Gascon, and I hope it will not lead to any other changes, or to any changes that are permanent. Instead, I hope that he deeply resents, and others in the force resent, and others who care about the security of civilians in San Francisco resent, the pressure applied by Muslims, and by those political figures above Chief Gascon, who must have made his life, however briefly, hell. The lesson he and others should take from this is to be even more wary and suspicious of those Muslims who protested, who seem to think that they can manipulate reality by attempting to prevent its discussion. They may, if we are not vigilant, be right. After all, they have managed in the Middle East to create a false reality through phrase-making, dinned into the world's ears night and day.
No real surprise here. It was to be expected, living as we do in the early stages of the Islamic assault on Western Civilization, true freedom and real equality under the law. It will take many more Muslims behaving badly (which will happen of course) before all the PC/MC crap is done away with. Also necessary to discard are most of the current elites, whether in academia, the media, the political world or wherever.
Time's 'acomin' when this will happen but meanwhile we'll have pathetic apologies like this one from the SF police chief for doing nothing more than telling the truth. We'll also have body parts strewn in all directions and other wretched things like this before the world collectively gets totally fed up with Islam, argubaly man's worst idea of all time.
I don't think any Christian Lebanese will be joining CAIR as part of that group of angry Arabs who want to make sure they press home the advantage they think they now have. One hopes that having made his politically-extorted apology, Chief Gascon will go no further, but when they meet him, instead of being subjected to their little lesson in cultural sensitivity, he will take no further nonsense, and ask what they are doing to protect this country, and its citizens, from their co-religiionists, beginning with how they are doing at monitoring, and reporting on, what goes on in the mosques. Now that would provide a salutary little shock to those who now smell blood, and are expecting to go in for the kill when they show up to angrily (or both "angry and hurt") confront Chief Gascon.
ROBERT: "In a sane world, they would be...but this ain't a sane world by a long shot."
I wish I had said that.
Ugh. It didn't take new police chief George Gascón very long to cave. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
From the official statement reprinted in the San Francisco Examiner:
"Police Chief George Gascón would like to apologize to those in the Arab, Middle Eastern, and Muslim communities who were offended by his comments yesterday. Chief Gascón did not intend to upset the community and he his mindful of the importance of cultural sensitivity, not only here in San Francisco, but nationally. The Chief and members of the San Francisco Police Department would also like to wish those of you who celebrate, a very happy Persian New Year."
You gotta admit, that bit about celebrating Nowruz was a nice touch... sarc/off

Rest is academic.
Shoutout to Gravenimage and other Islamosavvy San Francisco-and-surrounds jihadwatchers
is it at all possible for you to find some way of personally and politely expressing, to your Police Chief, your approval of his original speech as given, and your severe disappointment that he has given way under pressure, and apologised to the tantrum-throwing Muslims...for telling the truth?
Furthermore: if the Chief *does* agree to this 'meeting' with the members of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage, then surely some Islamosavvy citizens could conduct a rally outside the venue on the day: Hugh's 7.32 pm posting, immediately above, makes some points that could surely be translated into placards.
And perhaps George Gascon could be sent, as a gift from his fellow San Franciscans, in order to aid him in the better execution of his duty, copies of Mr Spencer's "Stealth Jihad" and David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry's "Muslim Mafia".
"The Chief and members of the San Francisco Police Department would also like to wish those of you who celebrate, a very happy Persian New Year."
There are two ways to interpret that. One is: it's an example of "cultural insensitivity," where the Chief is confusing Arabs with Persians, and with Persians who, in defiance of Islam, chose to continue, as so many Persians do, to observe a non-Islamic, because pre-Islamic, holiday, one observed in Iran, and in Afghanistan, but certainly not by Arabs anywhere.
The second is that it is not an example of "cultural insensitivity" at all but a calculating, and most clever, indication that the Chief and the force are quite aware of who does and who does not, celebrate Novruz, and knows perfectly well that devout Muslim Arabs -- as these must be -- are among those who do not, and who will be offended by the mere mention, in such a letter, of a non-Muslim holidy, for they refuse to observe any of them, and that includes, of course, not just Christmas, but also T%hanksgiving, Memorial Day, Independence Day. Muslims do not "give thanks" to Allah. He does what he wants, and theirs not to reason why. And what is Independence Day to Muslims? Why should they care when the Infidel nation-state of America obtained its independence from another Infidel nation-state, Great Britain? It's all, in its essence, part of one undifferentiated Dar al-Harb, to be conquered, slowly, patiently, by whatever means prove most effective, for Islam.
I prefer to think that the wishing of a "very happy Persian New Year" to "those of you who celebrate" it, was not a mistake, but deliberate.
I am surprised Mr Spencer did not remark upon *this* portion of the report:
"*The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American Islamic Relations* said today that it, along with other local Arab and Muslim groups, sent a letter to Gascon in which they expressed disappointment, etc."
CAIR.
In one of the two most authoritative and canonical hadith collections, SAHIH MUSLIM, IN VOLUME 4, BOOK 52, NUMBER 220, Muhammad says he has "been given superiority" over all other prophets. He says that's because he: 1) is profound, 2) uses terror, 3) is entitled to spoils of war, 4) finds the earth has been made a place of worship for him, 5) is the leader for all mankind, and 6) is the last prophet who will EVER exist. Notice that #6 means Muhammad is trying to shut the door on all future spiritual evolution and stop anyone from ever authoritatively correcting, amending, or transcending Muhammad's message):
Correction to my above comment: Muhammad enumerates the 6 attributes of his superior prophethood in SAHIH MUSLIM, BOOK 4, NUMBER 1062.
