Haaretz reports ‘Israel may free Palestinian prisoners when peace talks resume’
- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday told European officials that he would consider releasing Palestinian prisoners when Middle East peace talks resume.
“We are prepared to do many things to improve the quality of life in Judea and Samaria,” said Netanyahu referring to the West Bank. “But we first expect some movement on the Palestinian side.”
“We are weighing releasing prisoners, but as you know, this is a sensitive issue in Israel because of the subject of [abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier] Gilad Shalit,” the prime minister told the EU diplomats. “The matter depends on political movement from the Palestinian side.”
This blows me away. Why suck up to Abbas to get him to accept proximity talks only to slam the door in his face in negotiations, unless of course, if you intend to kiss his ass in negotiations.
Israeli soldier, 28, stabbed to death at Tapuach junction by Palestinian police officer.
- Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Wednesday condemned what he termed a “stabbing incident” in the West Bank earlier in the day, in which a Palestinian police officer fatally stabbed an Israel Defense Forces soldier.
Ihab Khatib, 28, was a non-commissioned logistics officer in the elite Kfir brigade, from the Druze village of Kfar Maghar. He was stabbed to death by Mahmoud al-Khatib, a member of the Palestinian security forces in the West Bank.
Fayyad, the darling of the West couldn’t muster the outrage to call this a murder. Instead it was a “stabbing incident”.
And yet Bibi is offering more inducements
