When is a smear a smear?
I see this morning that WikiLeaks' Assange says he is victim of smears
ELLINGHAM, England (Reuters) – WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange has declared that he is the victim of asmear campaign...
I immediately thought of Candidate Obama's "Fight the Smears"website. Would you believe, it's still there?
In case you don't remember, that's where the Obama campaign went to great lengths to smear anyone who voiced questions. For instance, at that "Who's Behind the Smears?" section (just under "Report A Smear"), they call Jerome Corsi
a "renowned conspiracy theorist"part of the "right-wing noise machine,""one of the most vile smear peddlers""a "bigoted fringe author."Oh, and "a discredited fringe bigot" at that. (They don't mention who discredited him, or how or when.)They accuse him of believing "that there is a literally an unending supply of oil beneath the ground," regularly demeaning public servants in "vile sexual and racial terms" and of course, "spinning garbage as journalism."
Given that this worked so well for The Won, I wonder if we won't see something similar from Julian Assange.
And come to think of it, maybe Israel - or AIPAC - should "declare" they are victims of a smear campaign, and start a (centralized) "Stop the Smears" site. Given that this tactic has been very effective in squashing any questions or/and opposition, why not learn from the masters?
