Shalit's Parents: Our Son is Real, Not an Actor

(IsraelNN.com) In the wake of a TV drama screened on Channel Two regarding three IDF soldiers held in captivity, Noam and Aviva Shalit released a statement reminding the public and government that their son has been suffering in Hamas captivity in Gaza for nearly four years.

The TV show, named “The Captives,” deals with the return of three IDF soldiers, as a result of a complex prisoner exchange, after 17 years in enemy captivity.

“We wish to reiterate,” Shalit's parents stated, “that Gilad is not an imaginary captive. He is an Israeli soldier who was kidnapped nearly four years ago, and has been held in Hamas dungeons since then. No one has met with him – not his family, not his friends, not the Red Cross, nor anyone else other than his captors.”

“The suffering that we, his family, are undergoing because of Gilad’s absence is nothing compared to what he himself is undergoing. We continue to demand that the Government of Israel and the Prime Minister act for his immediate release.”

Deal Fell Through
It appeared a few months ago that an agreement for Gilad’s return was about to be concluded, involving the release of nearly 1,000 terrorist prisoners, including murderers, from Israeli prisons. However, the deal fell through not because of the high number of prisoners, nor because of the fact that some of them were murderers, but apparently because of two other points: Hamas refused Israel’s demand that some of the terrorists be deported outside of Gaza and Judea/Samaria, and Israel refused to include five-time murderer Marwan Barghouti on the list of prisoners to be freed.

Netanyahu: We Have Conditions
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke about Shalit at a session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee last Tuesday. “We told the German mediator that we are willing to release prisoner in exchange for Gilad’s safe return home,” Netanyahu said, “but that it must be done in a way that would not repeat the mistakes of the Jibril and Tenenbaum deals, after which the released prisoners murdered Israelis.”

“Over 100 Israelis were murdered by or with the involvement of terrorists freed in the Jibril deal,” Netanyahu said. “And one of those released for Tenenbaum was involved in the murder of a rabbi who left seven orphans. We will not have the dangerous released prisoners going to places from where they can easily reach Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Raanana.”

The Jibril Deal
The Jibril Agreement of May 1985 took place between the Israeli government, headed at the time by Shimon Peres, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Israel released 1,150 terrorists from prison, in exchange for three Israeli prisoners captured during the Peace for Galilee war with Lebanon of 1982. Among the terrorists released by Israel were Kozo Okamoto, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, and many others, who later helped initiate and lead the first violent 'intifada' that broke out in the late 1980’s.

The Tenenbaum Exchange
The Tenenbaum deal was effected in January 2004, and saw the release of 400 Palestinian terrorist prisoners and 35 others by the Ariel Sharon-led government in exchange for kidnapped Israeli civilian Elchanan Tenenbaum and the bodies of three soldiers who had been killed three years earlier by Hizbullah. Tenenbaum, who was kidnapped in late 2000 while visiting Dubai, admitted later that he had been in the midst of trying to conclude an illegal drug deal that would have netted him $200,000.

(IsraelNN.com) American-born terrorist Adam Gadahn was recently arrested in Pakistan, according to senior officials in Islamabad. The arrest took place shortly after Gadahn sent out a message calling for “lone wolf” terrorist attacks in the United States, Britain and Israel.

Gadahn, also known as “Azzam al-Amriki,” is a California native who has become a senior leader in the international terrorist group Al-Qaeda.

Al-Qaeda operatives released on Sunday a 25-minute video featuring Gadahn. In the film, titled “A Call to Arms,” Gadahn praised Nidal Hassan, an American Muslim soldier charged with murdering 13 people in a shooting spree at the Fort Hood army base.

Hassan “has shown the way forward for every Muslim who finds himself among the unbelievers,” Gadahn declared. He called on Muslims living in the “Zionist-Crusader alliance,” and in the Uniited State, Britain and Israel in particular, to carry out similar attacks.

Gadahn also accused the United States of operating “Muslim-only concentration camps” in the state of Illinois, an apparent reference to the transfer of terror suspects to an Illinois prison.

Gadahn has been wanted by the FBI since 2004 and was charged with treason in 2006 for joining Al-Qaeda. There is a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

PA to Honor Terrorist during Biden Visit

Arutz Sheva
by Maayana Miskin

(IsraelNN.com) The Palestinian Authority is going ahead with plans to honor the notorious female mass-murder terrorist Dalal Mughrabi during United States Vice-President Joe Biden's visit to the region. Biden begins a three-day visit to Israel Monday evening.

One of his top goals is said to be encouraging Israel and the PA to resume negotiations, albeit through intermediaries.

On Thursday morning, the last day of Biden's visit, PA officials will gather in Ramallah to dedicate a square in honor of Mughrabi. Thursday will also be the 32nd anniversary of the 1978 attack led by Mughrabi, which is commonly known as the Coastal Road Massacre.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has protested to U.S. officials over the PA's plan to honor Mughrabi. The Obama administration has not made a formal response.

The PA's plan to go ahead with the naming ceremony was publicized Sunday by Palestinian Media Watch, based on reports in official PA daily papers. According to PA media, the ceremony will take place under the auspices of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

Mughrabi and other terrorists infiltrated Israel in 1978 and went on a rampage, hijacking a bus and shooting dozens of civilians. The terror squad murdered a total of 37 people. Mughrabi was killed in a shootout.

The square in Mughrabi's honor will be known as “Shahida Dalal Mughrabi Square.” The title “Shahid,” martyr, is reserved in Islam for those who die while fulfilling a religious command and who are assured of a place in paradise after death.

The PA has named several institutions after Mughrabi in the past, among them two girls high schools and two summer camps.

The ghost scientists on the Arctic expedition that never happened

Canda Free Press

Judi McLeod

imageMany vessels on dignified missions have gone down to watery graves in the challenging Arctic Sea.

Without the disinfectant of sunlight, the Canadian icebreaker and research ship Amundsen will remain lost in the permanent fog of yet another Global Warming fraud.

Known and even famous for plowing its way through ice for others, the Amundsen has been played a Ship of Fools.

Thanks to a roving band of 300 scientists—who were not even where they were reported to be—Canada has now become Al Gore’s top student in Global Warming Hype’s Class of 2010.

Undated “breaking news” from the Winnipeg Free Press with quotes used very similar to those of BBC correspondent David Shukman after a voyage of the Amundsen during the International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008, the world was warned that the sea ice in Canada’s fragile Arctic is melting more quickly than ice cream on an August afternoon.

“University of Manitoba Prof. David Barber, the lead investigator of the Circumpolar Flaw Lead System study, said the rapid decay of thick Arctic Sea ice highlights the rapid pace of climate change in the North and forecasts what will come in the south.” (Winnipeg Free Press, 2/06/2010).

“We’re seeing it happen more quickly than what our models thought would happen,” Barber said at a student symposium on climate change at FortWhyte Alive. “It’s happening much faster than our most pessimistic models suggested.”

Barber said the melting sea ice could be compared to disappearing rainforests.

It was not this winter but another-during the peak of global warming hype and before Climategate—when “more than 300 scientists from around the globe” braved winter’s blast on the Amundsen in the Arctic, all to study the impact of climate change.

We don’t know if the downed martinis drowned out all sense of geography during this voyage because the Amundsen—nowhere near the Arctic on February 6, 2010—was preoccupied doing icebreaking duty as usual on the the St. Lawrence River!

Funny how reader Paul Pekarek, who had checked the Canadian Coast Guard website, which confirmed indeed that the Amundsen was on the St. Lawrence, never heard back from the Winnipeg Free Press.

And as Canada Free Press (CFP) reader Jim Vanne points out, the logistics of this fateful Arctic trip are a tad off. The Amundsen has a total complement of 10 officers, 26 enlisted men—and only 26 additional berths: “Presumably this expedition was doubly politically correct, in that not only were these scientists checking global warming, but they must have all been gay, as they were sleeping a dozen per bed. Even better than the gay penguins story!”

The Feb. 6, 2010 expedition of the Amundsen that never happened would be the Global Warming joke of all time were it not for the fact that the Canadian government provided $156 million for the Circumpolar Flaw Lead System study.

When will the Canadian government and other governments ever learn?

The last time Canadians went circumpolaring during former Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson’s $1-million, 2003 taxpayer-paid tour, reason of which she haughtily described as “to affirm our Northern identity”, UN poster boy and carbon credit booster Maurice Strong was one of the passengers.

Now that man-made Global Warming has been exposed worldwide as an utter fraud, it is time for the Canadian Government to bring the Amundsen back in out of the fog.

The Democratic Party is Destroying Itself

Tea Party movement has gone from a populist movement that the media ignored and then smeared when they couldn't ignore it anymore, to a national force in politics

By Daniel Greenfield
imageThe Republican party is destroying itself. That’s the message you’ll see repeated in media outlet after media outlet. That is the liberal talking point that has been spread throughout 2008 and 2009 by the press over and over again. It’s the one they’re still repeating now, even as the Tea Party movement has gone from a populist movement that the media ignored and then smeared when they couldn’t ignore it anymore, to a national force in politics. It’s the mantra that they’re still chanting even as so many Democratic congressmen are departing that it almost feels like a coup.

As the Soviet Union kept insisting in the 70s that world capitalism was on the brink of destruction—the Greenwalds, the Krugmans and their meme spreading diggbats are insisting that the Republican party is about to be destroyed as a force in national politics. Just as the Republican party is due for a major comeback in the midterm elections. As Obama’s ratings keep sinking faster than a wet Koran in a toilet and the Democratic congress finds itself chained to a wildly unpopular health care plan that would force everyone to buy insurance from their health insurance industry backers—the old record keeps spinning. The Republican party is destroying itself.

But that is the price you pay for living in an echo chamber. The echoes may sound pretty, but only to someone who is deeply in love with the sound of his own voice. The USSR formed itself into one giant echo chamber in which everyone repeated the lies that the government wanted them to believe, until the government believed them too. And that is the real punishment of a liar, not that he will not be believed when he tells the truth, but that he will come to believe his own lies as the absolute truth. So when every level of government and media in the USSR repeated that last year’s harvest was 96 percent successful, no one could logically reconcile that with the fact that there was no actual bread anywhere to be found. Forced to choose between believing in the propaganda of a successful harvest or the reality that there was no bread—they went on believing in the propaganda, because lies had become their reality.

When in the aftermath of Scott Brown’s Massachusetts victory, Howard Dean went on Hardball to explain that the actual vote had been in support of the Public Option, you could almost see the hammer and sickle waving over his head. His argument made absolutely no logical sense, even to famous leg-tingler Chris Matthews. But they were never meant to make any kind of logical sense. Howard Dean was proceeding from the absolute belief that the American people want the most extreme legislation that Democrats can possibly think of. Not the opinion, not the ideal… but the belief. This is an absolute belief that millions of liberals share. The fact that most Americans do not want their legislation is not a fact that they can process. When confronted with it, just ignore it. Because when your premise is that Americans want your legislation, then the fact that they don’t want it does not compute.

Ideology programs people to believe things in the same way that a computer is programmed to believe things. At that point, reason and facts have absolutely nothing to do with it. Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan went off to war fueled by faith that their own superiority would cause them to prevail. Setbacks and defeats could not be processed logically by their leadership—because their ideology said that setbacks and defeats were impossible. Hitler ignored the pleading of his own generals to retreat. In the last days, his bunker became an echo chamber in which his followers remained convinced that Germany would prevail even as its armies had been destroyed, and children were being thrown into the battle. And when the facts couldn’t be ignored any longer, Hitler killed himself. Just as Hideki Tojo tried to kill himself. Just as Stalin had contemplated killing himself when German troops had initially flooded across the border. Just as the Democratic party is now trying to kill itself.

Democrat nutroots insist that the only reason the party is suffering setbacks is because they aren’t being extreme enough

The madness of the left is holding the Democratic party hostage, as the nutroots insist that the only reason the party is suffering setbacks, is because they aren’t being extreme enough. Which is how rigid ideologies deal with setbacks. Which is why ideological revolutions quickly devolve into mass graves as the leadership and the cadres look for new targets to blame for “sabotaging” the revolution. Because the revolution itself can’t be flawed. Its ideas are as perfect as the sky above and as pure as the driven snow. It is the unbelievers and the heretics, the “moderates”, the “Conservative Democrats” who are the forces of reaction, who are responsible for the setbacks. The party must rededicate itself to its revolutionary purity of 2008 and remain in the vanguard of the struggle to destroy health care in America. Madness? No, this is what George Soros paid for. This is what imprisoning an entire party under a glass dome of ideology looks like. This is what Communism looks like.

Using Reconciliation to pass health care, Howard Dean’s nutroots vectored proposal, that even Chris Matthews derided as insane, has gone mainstream now. Or as mainstream as anything that Obama backs, but won’t actually say straight out, can possibly be. Nancy Pelosi is warning congressmen that they should be prepared to lose their jobs to pass health care legislation. But why would they be in danger of losing their jobs unless the voters didn’t want them to pass it? The third most powerful figure in the Democratic party is urging her fellow Democrats to ignore democracy. And this backhanded way is her only acknowledgment that she has dedicated itself to a plan that the public opposes. That she knows the public will punish at the ballot box.

But oh yes, after winning the governorships in Virginia and New Jersey, and taking Ted Kennedy’s seat in the bargain, thereby terminating the Democratic party’s Supermajority (an event that the polls showed the public strongly favoring)... the Republican party is destroying itself. All that’s left for Obama is to take off his shoe at his next address to congress and bang it on the podium, screaming, “We Will Bury You All”. Though perhaps with the current state of the White House, that job would most properly fall to Joe Biden.

In the halls of congress, there’s still talk of reviving Cap and Trade—a piece of legislation that should properly be called, “HR: 1917 We Will Bury You All”. Because what America most needs right now to speed up its economic recovery is to completely destroy what’s left of its industrial and manufacturing base. Such is the mad logic of Los Angeles, where increasingly demented Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is preparing to saddle Angelinos with a Carbon Surcharge. Fresh from his appearance on All My Children, Villaraigosa has temporarily put his patented “One Million” proposals on hold long enough to come up with a new plan to bankrupt Los Angeles that doesn’t involve building a subway system. This at a time when the California economy is already approaching a state of disaster.

Democrats switched to wearing “I’m with Stupid” t-shirts every time they posed with Obama

There’s no madness like ideological madness. That’s the species of insanity that drives a Krugman to insist that we’re not going into debt fast enough to fix the economy. That’s the kind of madness that leads a victorious party to go down a blind alley in order to pass a health plan that only health unions and health insurance companies want. A few months after winning on a platform of “It’s the Economy, Stupid”, the Democrats switched to wearing “I’m with Stupid” t-shirts every time they posed with Obama.

And it won’t be fixed by repeatedly referring to their plan as health care reform and promising to challenge all the big evil health insurance companies, by forcing the public to be their customers. Despite all of Obama’s glib telepromptered rhetoric, it hasn’t fooled the voters. And it won’t, no matter how many times Obama channels the spirit of Castro in nationally televised addresses to be broadcast on every network.

Because if Congress passes a bill that forces every American to have his or her clothes dry cleaned once a week, no one in their right mind will buy it as a reform plan or be grateful to the politicians who forced it on them. If Congress passes a bill forcing everyone to buy Tofu, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the only people who benefit are Tofu manufacturers and distributors. The health care plan doesn’t benefit American consumers, it benefits the Democratic party’s base of dole voters who live off taxpayer funded freebies, the health insurance industry, their affiliated unions, and everyone else who profits from entangling government and business into one big Gordian knot.

And so onward go the Socialist Soldiers of the Democratic party, marching as to war. And if they can ram through health care with 50 Senators, the only certainty is that this is how many they won’t have next time around. Because the people may be slow to react, but they do watch and they do punish. And what goes around comes around. If the Democrats have failed to learn from Massachusetts, when their attempt to pass an unpopular health care plan helped cost them a Senate seat in one of the most liberal states in America, then they will get the chance to learn from numerous other races in 2012—particularly if they attempt to illegally ram through a piece of legislation that is now more unpopular than ever.

The Democratic congress can use reconciliation or just drive up tanks to Capitol Hill or stationed armed guards at the doors to keep Republicans out. But unless they suspend elections, there will still be a price to pay at the ballot box. And forgetting this is a true sign that the Democratic party is blindly and willfully destroying itself. The left wing takeover of the party has doomed it to act like Chavez without having the kind of broad powers that a Latin American tyrant can wield. And so all that’s left is the echo chamber, the propaganda memes echoing from wall to wall as the faithful assure each other that victory will soon be theirs.

Meanwhile, the New York Times and a number of other dead-tree magazines are busy running stories warning that Rupert Murdoch’s empire is about to fall apart. Even at a time when News Corp is one of the few companies turning a profit, primarily thanks to FOX News—while the New York Times is laying off workers and borrowing money from shady Mexican billionaires to stay afloat. But of course it’s the New York Times that is going along swimmingly, while poor profitable News Corp is at the edge of the abyss.

As Iraq had fallen, the Iraqi Minister of Information was still insisting that there were no American troops in Baghdad. Not even within a 100 miles of Baghdad. That they were shooting down hundreds of American cruise missiles. That most of the American forces were already dead. That the rest would perish soon. Today the Iraqi Minister of Information would have no trouble getting a job in the White House because every echo chamber needs a good echo before it plummets into the abyss.

Arab League and EU plan to get UN to impose solution

Israpundit.com

By Ted Belman

Proximity talks will soon start. But they won’t go anywhere.

As DEBKA pointed out, the US is backing away from confrontation and leaving it to the the Arab League, the UN and the EU to pressure Israel.

As I pointed out the Arab League is going to turn the matter over to the SC to impose a solution.

Now Haaretz reports Secret Israeli report: U.S. cozying up to Palestinians. No surprise there.

The U.S. administration will not put a lot of effort into the upcoming indirect negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, opting instead to focus on the November Congressional elections, according to an internal Foreign Ministry report that was distributed to Israeli diplomatic missions abroad.

The classified report claims that in the preparatory discussions for the Israeli-Palestinian proximity talks the Obama administration adopted positions that are closer to Palestinian demands.

“The recent American statements point to the adoption of wording in line, even if partially and cautiously, with Palestinian demands in regard to the framework and structure of negotiations,” the report stated. “Still, the [U.S.] administration is making sure to avoid commenting on its position on core issues.”

Why is Netanyahu going along with this?

Meanwhile, Hamas Furious over Negotiations Go-Ahead

As long as Hamas doe not share power in the Palestinian Authority, negotiations with Israel “would not meet any standards of legitimacy,” Bahar said.

They also reject the Fayyad Plan.

But that’s not all. The following article supports my contention that an imposed plan is coming sooner than you think.

EU: ‘Accept PA State as Full Member of UN’

(IsraelNN.com) European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana is taking steps to move the establishment of a Palestinian Authority state through the United Nations, whether Israel agrees to it or not.

Solana told a British audience in London on Saturday that Israel and the PA should be given a deadline by which to conclude negotiations for a two-state solution. If a final status agreement is not reached by that time, according to the Reuters news agency, Solana recommended that one be imposed by the United Nations instead.

“After a fixed deadline, a UN Security Council resolution should proclaim the adoption of the two-state solution,” he said. “It would accept the Palestinian state as a full member of the UN, and set a calendar for implementation. It would mandate the resolution of other remaining territorial disputes and legitimize the end of claims.”

He added, “If the parties are not able to stick to it [referring to the UN-imposed timetable -ed.], then a solution backed by the international community should be put on the table.”

Solana added that the UN-imposed “two-state solution” should include resolution of issues such as control over Israel’s capital, the city of Jerusalem, as well as border definitions, security arrangements and the “right of return” by millions of foreign descendants of Arab refugees who abandoned their homes during the 1948 war.

PA negotiator Saeb Erekat reiterated Sunday that no discussions between the Palestinian Authority and Israel would begin without a complete freeze of all Jewish construction in Judea Samaria. Erekat made the statement in response to a call by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to resume peace talks with Israel.

“There can be no compromises on construction,” Erekat said. “If Israel is allowed to build 1,000 or 2,000 housing units it will lead the PA and the Arab nations to believe the U.S. government cannot convince the Israeli government to stop building.”

PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has said repeatedly he is unwilling to come to the table unless Israel stops all building in the regions, including construction within the city limits of existing cities and towns.

Now you have it all.

Note: I have been told more than once not to worry i.e. PM Netanyahu knows what he is doing, my friend tells me. Well, I sure hope so, because right about now, if Iwere Israel, I would roll up any further "Welcome" mats for Western diplomats; I would fire up the engines of my entire military force and like the motto of the Girl Scouts of America, "Be Prepared" ..!! Petraeus: Iran becoming a 'thugocracy'

POLITICO.COM

CENTCOM commander Gen. David Petraeus took several hard shots at Iran on Sunday, saying the country was becoming a “thugocracy” and calling President Mamoud Ahmadinejad “our best recruiting officer.”

Iran’s security forces are playing less of a role in Iraq now, since they “have had to focus a great deal more on internal security challenges than they did in the past,” Petraeus told Fareed Zakaria on CNN.

“Iran has gone from a theocracy to a thugacracy,” he said, “because of the citizens who are outraged by the hijacking of the election that took place last June.”

Saying that Iran has rejected the open hand that the Obama administration extended, Petraeus said, “The result is the transition by not just the United States -- France the U.K., even Russia are all seeing the need to transition to the so-called pressure track, with much stiffer sanctions and so forth.”

Asked whether a nuclear Iran could be contained, Petraeus said, “First of all you have to ask the country that is most directly concerns about this, and that would be Israel.”

In the gulf states, Petraeus said, “There’s almost a slight degree of bipolarity there at times. On the one hand there are countries that would like to see a strike – perhaps Israeli– there’s the worry that someone will strike. And then there’s the worry that someone won’t strike.”

“President Ahmadinejad is often our best recruiting officer,” Petraeus said, because his actions and his rhetoric are causing much more embrace of CENTCOM and other activities than would otherwise be the case.”

Note: ".... saying the country was becoming a “thugocracy”." Well, I'm not a General, but listening to these soundbites just about makes me sick! When did we begin to think that the United States could reason with Ahmadinejad, a man with an unstable mind, hell-bent on wiping Israel off the map, while threatening the West?! Oh, ... I remember, since Obama entered the White House.

And “First of all you have to ask the country that is most directly concerns about this, and that would be Israel.” ... is quite laugable, when we've read all week that Biden's main purpose of visiting Israel is to "TELL ISRAEL" (not ask) not to strike Iran. The Obama Administration has been "telling Israel" how to manage its country for the past year i.e. freeze settlements; don't build in Jerusalem; release 1,000 terrorists to Hamas, so that Hamas will agree to release the IDF soldier Gilad; etc.

These quotes from Patraeus are an example of how entrenched in Obama's double-speech our entire government has sunk - and while "we the people" continue to seek ways to bring our country back from the pits dug by Obama, this type of reporting is very discouraging. Bee Sting

President Obama, with Vice President Joe Biden beside him, in televised remarks about the Iraqi election

Politico - the White Board

Today the people of Iraq went to the polls to choose their leaders in Iraq’s second national election. By any measure this was an important milestone in Iraqi history… ballots were cast in some 50,000 voting booths and in a strong turnout millions of Iraqis exercised their right to vote with enthusiasm and optimism.” The election shows, Obama said, that “the future of Iraq belongs to the people of Iraq.”

It “speaks to the growing capability and professionalism of Iraqi security forces, which took the lead in providing protection at the polls.” … “As today’s voting demonstrates, the Iraqi people want disagreements to be debated and decided through a political process that provides security and prosperity for all Iraqis.” …

“We will continue with the withdrawal of United States forces from Iraq… By the end of August, out combat mission will end… By the end of next year, all U.S. troops will be out of Iraq.”

Obama did not address reports that Adam Gadahn, the American-born Al Qaeda spokesman also known as Azzam the American, has been arrested in Karachi.

The Obama Way: Bluster, Bully, Bribe

Obama has shown a total disrespect for the law

The White House took great offense this week when conservatives suggested President Obama might be trading a judicial appointment for a wavering Democrat’s vote on his health care reform plan. "Absurd," a miffed administration official told Politico.com. Wherever could the American people get such an impression? Let us count the ways.

On Wednesday, the very day Obama hosted 10 swing Democrats who had opposed the expansive health care takeover bill in November, the White House issued a press release trumpeting the nomination of Scott M. Matheson Jr. to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. Matheson just happens to be the brother of Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson of Utah — one of the 10 Dems invited to sip wine and nosh on calorically correct appetizers with the arm-twister-in-chief.

The seat on the 10th Circuit has been vacant for nearly a year. When one of the judges, Michael McConnell, resigned to take a lucrative post at Stanford Law School last summer, Matheson — Rhodes Scholar, law school professor and dean — let the White House know right away he wanted the job. For nearly a year, there was no action.

Liberal groups have been complaining for months about the glacial pace of Obama’s judicial nominations — a predicament they blame not solely on obstructionist Republicans, but on Obama’s own team of incompetent, indecisive foot-draggers who put the issue at the bottom of their priority list.

The White House took great offense this week when conservatives suggested President Obama might be trading a judicial appointment for a wavering Democrat's vote on his health care reform plan.

Jim Matheson of Utah -- one of the 10 Dems invited to sip wine and nosh on calorically correct appetizers with the arm-twister-in-chief.

The seat on the 10th Circuit has been vacant for nearly a year. When one of the judges, Michael McConnell, resigned to take a lucrative post at Stanford Law School last summer, Matheson -- Rhodes Scholar, law school professor and dean -- let the White House know right away he wanted the job. For nearly a year, there was no action.

Liberal groups have been complaining for months about the glacial pace of Obama's judicial nominations -- a predicament they blame not solely on obstructionist Republicans, but on Obama's own team of incompetent, indecisive foot-draggers who put the issue at the bottom of their priority list. (It's worth noting that Utah GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch supports Matheson's candidacy.

As the National Law Journal pointed out at the beginning of this year, "the Obama administration has been slower than the Bush administration was in sending judicial nominations to the Senate, submitting 12 circuit nominations last year compared with 28 for Bush in 2001. The White House last named a circuit nominee on Nov. 4."

Now, out of nowhere, comes the announcement of Matheson's nomination -- in the heat of White House vote-grubbing to salvage the Democrats' government health care designs? To quote Dana Carvey's old Church Lady character on "Saturday Night Live": How conveeenient.

Let us consider the possibility, for a brief moment, that this is all merely coincidence. Is the White House so fantastically blind and tone-deaf that it failed to detect the blood-red flags and blaring alarm bells that Scott Matheson's judicial nomination would raise coming on the very day Obama was wooing his brother? Incorrigibly corrupt or incorrigibly stupid. Take your pick.

The perception of a judgeship-for-Obamacare-vote deal is, of course, horribly unfair to Matheson, who seems more than qualified for the position. But full blame for creating that unmistakable perception lies squarely at the feet of the rank opportunists in the White House, whose timing is worse than a broken metronome.

This debacle comes on the heels of damning disclosures about other possible White House bribery. Democratic Rep. Joe Sestak in Pennsylvania admitted to veteran Philly newsman Larry Kane that Team Obama dangled a "high-ranking" position in the administration if he dropped out of the Senate race and left incumbent Republican-turned-Democratic Sen. Arlen Specter alone.

In Colorado, the Denver Post reported last fall that Deputy White House Chief of Staff Jim Messina "offered specific suggestions" for an Obama administration job to far-left Democrat Andrew Romanoff if he withdrew his challenge to White House-backed incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet.

And earlier this month, The Washington Times noted that Mary Patrice Brown, the person assigned by the Justice Department to oversee an internal investigation into the shady dismissal of the New Black Panther Party voter intimidation cases, is now "the leading candidate for a federal judgeship -- for which she is being vetted by some of the same offices she supposedly is investigating."

So, wherever did we get the impression that pay-for-play is the Obama way? Somewhere, Chicago corruptocrat Rod Blagojevich -- who wanted to play, but didn't get paid -- is laughing bitterly.

Obama policies projected to add $9.7 trillion to U.S. debt by 2020

Expose Obama

By Lori Montgomery, Washington Post

President Obama’s policies would add more than $9.7 trillion to the national debt over the next decade, congressional budget analysts said Friday, including more than $2 trillion that Obama proposes to devote to extending a variety of tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration.

The 10-year outlook by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office is somewhat gloomier than White House projections, which found that Obama’s policies would add $8.5 trillion to the debt by 2020. While the two agencies are in relative agreement about the short-term budget picture, with both predicting a deficit of about $1.5 trillion this year and $1.3 trillion in 2011, the CBO is less optimistic about future years, predicting that deficits will grow rapidly after 2015.

By far the biggest contributor to those budget gaps, the CBO said, is Obama’s plan to prevent the alternative minimum tax from expanding to affect millions of additional Americans and to extend the Bush tax cuts for families making less than $250,000 a year beyond their expiration date later this year.

National debt to be higher than White House forecast, CBO says

President Obama's proposed budget would add more than $9.7 trillion to the national debt over the next decade, congressional budget analysts said Friday. Proposed tax cuts for the middle class account for nearly a third of that shortfall.

The 10-year outlook released by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office is somewhat gloomier than White House projections, which found that Obama's budget request would produce deficits that would add about $8.5 trillion to the national debt by 2020.

The CBO and the White House are in relative agreement about the short-term budget picture, with both predicting a deficit of about $1.5 trillion this year -- a post-World War II record at 10.3 percent of the overall economy -- and $1.3 trillion in 2011. But the CBO is considerably less optimistic about future years, predicting that deficits would never fall below 4 percent of the economy under Obama's policies and would begin to grow rapidly after 2015.

Deficits of that magnitude would force the Treasury to continue borrowing at prodigious rates, sending the national debt soaring to 90 percent of the economy by 2020, the CBO said. Interest payments on the debt would also skyrocket by $800 billion over the same period.

Obama's tax-cutting agenda is by far the biggest contributor to those budget gaps, the CBO said. As part of his campaign pledge to protect families making less than $250,000 a year from new taxes, the president is proposing to prevent the alternative minimum tax from expanding to ensnare millions of additional taxpayers. He also wants to make permanent a series of tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration, which are scheduled to expire at the end of this year

ad_icon

"Over the next 10 years, those policies would reduce revenues and boost outlays for refundable tax credits by a total of $3.0 trillion," wrote Douglas W. Elmendorf, the CBO director. Combined with interest payments on that shortfall, the tax cuts account for the entire increase in deficits that would result from Obama's proposals.

Obama is convening a special commission to bring deficits down to 3 percent of the economy, but the CBO report shows that Obama could accomplish that goal simply by letting the Bush tax cuts expire and paying for changes to the alternative minimum tax.

Other policy changes, such as Obama's signature health-care initiative and a plan to dramatically expand the federal student loan program, would have significant effects on the budget, Elmendorf wrote, but they generally would be paid for and therefore would not drive deficits higher.

Obama’s Homeland Security now digging into all internet communication

Expose Obama

“All internet communication” is subject to be searched by Obama dept. of homeland security

The Obama administration lifted the veil Tuesday on a highly-secretive set of policies to defend the U.S. from cyber attacks.

It was an open secret that the National Security Agency was bolstering a Homeland Security program to detect and respond to cyber attacks on government systems, but a summary of that program declassified Tuesday provides more details of NSA’s role in a Homeland program known as Einstein.

The current version of the program is widely seen as providing meager protection against attack, but a new version being built will be more robust–largely because it’s rooted in NSA technology. The program is designed to look for indicators of cyber attacks by digging into all Internet communications, including the contents of emails, according to the declassified summary.

Homeland Security will then strip out identifying information and pass along data on new threats to NSA. It will also use threat information from NSA to better identify emerging cyber attacks.

NSA’s role is a careful balance because of the political battles that ensued over the agency’s role in domestic surveillance in the George W. Bush administration. Declassifying details of the NSA’s role, in a program initially developed during the Bush administration and continued in the Obama administration, will likely ignite new debates over privacy.

The White House’s new cyber-security chief, Howard Schmidt, announced the move to declassify the program in a speech at the RSA conference in San Francisco–his first major public address since assuming the post in January. He said addressing potential privacy concerns was one of the ten initial steps he planned to take. “We’re really paying attention, and we get it,” he said.

Jerusalem of Gold - Yerushalayim shel Zahav -Ofra Haza..with English Translation

"Jerusalem of Gold" (Hebrew: ירושלים של זהב‎, Yerushalayim Shel Zahav) is a popular Israeli song written by Naomi Shemer in 1967. The original song described the Jewish people's 2000-year longing to return to Jerusalem; Shemer added a final verse after the Six-Day War to celebrate Jerusalem's unification under Israeli control.

At that time, the Old City was under Jordanian rule; Jews had been barred from entering, and many holy sites had been desecrated. Only three weeks after the song was published, the Six-Day War broke out. The song was the battle cry and morale booster of the Israeli troops. Shemer even sang it for them before the war and festival, making them among the first in the world to hear it. On 7 June, the Israel Defense Forces captured the eastern part of Jerusalem and the Old City from the Jordanians. When Shemer heard the paratroopers singing "Jerusalem of Gold" at the Western Wall, she wrote a final verse, reversing the phrases of lamentation found in the second verse. The line about shofars sounding from the Temple Mount is a reference to an event that actually took place on 7 June. This beautiful version is from the late OFRA HAZA.

Obama’s Flawed Idea of ‘American Exceptionalism’

Pajamas Media
March 5, 2010 - by Rick Moran

It's not that the president doesn't believe in American exceptionalism. It's that his concept of it is driving his party over a cliff.

It has become a staple of criticism directed against the president on the right to accuse him of lacking a belief in “American exceptionalism” — the notion that our history, our Constitution, and our national character set us apart from other nations.

For many, this plays directly into the theme that the president is trying to fundamentally alter American society in ways that are inimical to our national identity, and that deny those traditions and values that define us as an exceptional people.

Of the latter, I have no doubt. President Obama is trying to unmoor us from a treasured and traditional past and set us adrift in unknown waters. His notion of “fundamental change” for America is so far beyond what is necessary to get us out of this recession, or even fix problems with our health care system, that he has lost sight of the safe harbor offered by our first principles and cherished heritage. Nor has he acted prudently. This alone should have caused the kind of emotional outpouring we’ve seen from the tea party movement and those who so strenuously spoke their mind at the health care town hall forums last summer.

What critics of these grassroots expressions of outrage fail to see is that the president’s broad attack on tradition is more than just a desire to address problems with the economy or health insurance. What the president seeks is nothing less than a basic alteration in the American experiment, a radical change in the way the American citizen relates to the federal government. It seems to have come as a surprise to our president and many of his supporters that there would be such fierce opposition to this idea. Why this is so defines the president’s idea of “exceptionalism” and his stated desire to redefine American identity.

In an excellent essay for National Review, Rich Lowry and Ramesh Ponnuru make the case that President Obama does not believe in American exceptionalism at all:

The survival of American exceptionalism as we have known it is at the heart of the debate over Obama’s program. It is why that debate is so charged. In his first year, Obama tried to avoid the cultural hot buttons that tripped up Bill Clinton and created the “gays, guns, and God” backlash of 1994. But he has stoked a different type of cultural reaction. The level of spending, the bailouts, and the extent of the intervention in the economy contemplated in health-care and cap-and-trade legislation have created the fear that something elemental is changing in the country. At stake isn’t just a grab bag of fiscal issues, but the meaning of America and the character of its people: the ultimate cultural issue.

The oft-heard lament from conservatives lately — “I want my country back” — has been twisted by the left into something mean, something ignorant, even racist. They aren’t listening. Nor can they fathom the depth of feeling that lament reveals. It is not an exaggeration to look at what the president has done since he’s taken office and say that it has undermined the very foundations of what makes us special. This “elemental changing” referred to by Messrs. Lowry and Ponnuru is sensed as an abandonment of the basic principles that define American exceptionalism — a state of being that most Americans do not want to give up, and won’t give up without a fight.

But does President Obama believe we are an exceptional people? Lowry and Ponnuru say no, that President Obama has actually rejected American exceptionalism. As proof, they offer the facts that he doesn’t wear a flag pin, that he has been “detached” from American history, and his now famous response to a direct question about exceptionalism:

I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.

Case closed? Not exactly. Conor Friedersdorf makes the point that if one were to read what the president said in context it would be clear that his rhetoric is not that different from any other president’s:

I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism. I’m enormously proud of my country and its role and history in the world. If you think about the site of this summit and what it means, I don’t think America should be embarrassed to see evidence of the sacrifices of our troops, the enormous amount of resources that were put into Europe postwar, and our leadership in crafting an Alliance that ultimately led to the unification of Europe. We should take great pride in that.

And if you think of our current situation, the United States remains the largest economy in the world. We have unmatched military capability. And I think that we have a core set of values that are enshrined in our Constitution, in our body of law, in our democratic practices, in our belief in free speech and equality, that, though imperfect, are exceptional.

The president went on to say that “America has a continued extraordinary role in leading the world towards peace and prosperity…” These are hardly the words of someone who doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism. The question the NRO writers should have asked is: Does Obama believe in the traditional definition of American exceptionalism? I think we can safely say that he does not. Instead, he has substituted a new paradigm embraced by the left that holds America to be a work in progress; it holds that the ideal of America is exceptional, but the reality is not.

It is a view that goes hand in hand with the left’s notion of patriotism. Peter Beinart, in a brilliant essay for Time magazine, defined patriotism on the left thusly:

If conservatives tend to see patriotism as an inheritance from a glorious past, liberals often see it as the promise of a future that redeems the past. Consider Obama’s original answer about the flag pin: “I won’t wear that pin on my chest,” he said last fall. “Instead, I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.” Will make this country great? It wasn’t great in the past? It’s not great as it is?

The liberal answer is, Not great enough. For liberals, America is less a common culture than a set of ideals about democracy, equality and the rule of law. American history is a chronicle of the distance between those ideals and reality. And American patriotism is the struggle to narrow the gap. Thus, patriotism isn’t about honoring and replicating the past; it’s about surpassing it.

What informs President Obama’s love of America is the promise of what America can be, not what she is today. Similarly, his idea of exceptionalism is animated by the belief that we can be so much more than what we are, and that in order to achieve that lofty goal, radical surgery is necessary to excise the ghosts of racism, sexism, homophobia, aggressive militarism, evil capitalism — and tens of millions who don’t have health insurance. To Obama, there is no difference between the evils of slavery and the fact that so many have no insurance. Each is a hindrance to achieving the American ideal of an “exceptional” society as envisioned by the president

We don’t understand this kind of thinking on the right. To love one’s country in the abstract? But it explains why the president is perfectly willing to hack away at the “essential constraints” of the Constitution to achieve what he believes to be an ideal America and be true to his concept of exceptionalism. It’s why what he is doing “feels” so wrong, so out of control. Seeing our basic law as an impediment to an ideal America shows the president to be wedded to an exceptionalism that is outside the traditional definition, but connected to the idea of America being “different” because of our history and values.

And the president has learned well the code words and images to gloss over the fact that his idea of exceptionalism is quite different than that of most of the rest of us. Consider these rhetorical flourishes from the president’s inaugural address and then try to square them with what he has actually been doing in office:

America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because We the People have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents. So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

**********

The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

*********

Our Founding Fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience’s sake.

The president has indeed given up some of those ideals “for expedience’s sake” (“Never let a crisis go to waste”), and we can question his commitment to our founding documents — or at least his understanding of the spirit that animated the Founders in suffusing the Constitution with the idea that the natural rights we are all born with are immutable and everlasting.

For unlike traditional exceptionalism, the president’s concept of what makes America special does not include the self-evident notion that Americans derive their rights from nature, or God. We are born free and no government made can alter that fact. The Constitution, for those who believe in traditional exceptionalism, was written to enshrine those natural rights into law. As Lowry and Ponnuru point out, there is more in the Constitution about what the government is prevented from doing, than what it is allowed to do.

But the president wants to alter that equation. To achieve his ideal America, he is willing to create a government that will, in effect, inform the people what they are allowed and what they will be prevented from doing. Health insurance reform is only the beginning because so many decisions we make every day potentially relate to our health and well being. Almost by default, and with the justification that it is necessary for the common good, the government’s control over our actions will extend beyond the immediate sphere of health insurance and encompass areas we can only dimly fathom today.

President Obama means well. This much we can glean from his insistence that, even at the risk of disastrous political defeat at the polls in November for his party, he is willing to undertake this imprudent, radical, and unnecessary change in the relationship between the governed and the governors.

And it is his own flawed but heartfelt idea of “American exceptionalism” that is driving him and his party over a cliff.

Are you a Patriot?

This song was written by Steven Van Zandt in 1983. He's know as Silvio in "The Sopranos", Little Stevie in concert, and Steven Van Zandt in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. Stevie sang his "I am a Patriot" at a 1984 Rockpalast.

Steven's opening speech was made timeless at this concert.
He said "Being a Patriot is about fighting for freedom, truth and justice and not towing the political line".
also
"Being a Partiot means questioning every MoFo, every time"

He also has written some other political songs on his Voice Of America CD

Are Eric Holder’s Days Numbered?

Pajamas Media
March 5, 2010 - by Richard Pollock

PJM speaks to Senator Chuck Grassley and Deborah Burlingame regarding whether the White House will reverse Holder on the NYC terror trial, or if Holder will go soon.

This has not been a good week for Attorney General Eric Holder. He is now in the doghouse — or perhaps somewhere worse — after the White House was reported to be “nearing a decision” to reverse Holder on trying terrorists in a civilian court in New York City. According to the Washington Post, “President Obama’s advisers” are about to revoke Holder’s controversial decision and send the terrorists to a military tribunal. The Post also says they may scuttle plans for any civilian trials for terrorists.

The Post says the decision is being made by the president’s “advisers” — Holder, apparently, has had little input on the reversal. If true, this morning’s report is a direct repudiation of the AG.

Holder’s decision has been sheer disaster for Democrats in New York, and the political backlash in one of the country’s most liberal states was not lost on the White House. The decision has also been unpopular throughout the nation, and at least one prominent activist who lost a family member on September 11 has asked for Holder’s resignation.

Deborah Burlingame told PJM:

I think its time for Holder to step aside, because he’s botched so much at this point.

Burlingame cited a trio of recent controversies engulfing the attorney general: the KSM trial, the controversy over terrorist defense attorneys secretly working on the Justice Department detainee policy, and Holder’s decision to offer civil rights and lawyers to Christmas bomber Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab.

Senator Chuck Grassley, ranking minority member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, told PJM that the New York City trial reversal was “welcome news,” but:

It appears that the consequences of having these trials on U.S. soil weren’t properly vetted before the original decision was made. This should be of great concern to the American people.

From another congressional source:

Holder has lost the trust of people on Capitol Hill that he is capable of making good decisions. … It’s not clear that he can make sound decisions.

Burlingame also said that Justice should be stripped of the responsibility of creating future detainee policies, returning it to the Defense Department:

Frankly I would like [to see] the taking of the detainee policy out of the Department of Justice and putting it back [with] the Department of Defense, where it belongs.

Holder and the administration are getting heat from their political base, too. “If this stunning reversal comes to pass, President Obama will deal a death blow to his own Justice Department, not to mention American values,” American Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Anthony Romero said in a statement e-mailed to reporters.

Senator Grassley told PJM that it was difficult for Americans to swallow the idea of granting greater legal rights to terrorists than to our own troops who face a military court martial:

The administration has had a difficult time justifying the rationale for giving the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks on America more rights than our men and women in military, fighting to protect our homeland, who are court martialed.

Burlingame said Holder surprised local officials with his decision to try terrorists in New York, and he was deaf to public sentiment:

Eric Holder went about it in a wholly incompetent way, including choosing the venue. He knew it was problematic and yet he did not consult with people in New York City. He sprung this decision on them and earned their disfavor from the very beginning. I think he wanted the decision to be a fait acompli so the people could not object to it. And eventually it was his undoing.

Ms. Burlingame’s brother was the pilot of United Airlines Flight 93, which went down in Pennsylvania after being hijacked by 9/11 terrorists. She also is a central figure who has rallied 9/11 families in New York and who sits on the board of Keep America Safe with Liz Cheney and Bill Kristol.

Holder also got into trouble this week when all seven Republican members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee sent Holder a blistering letter regarding his evasiveness in explaining his decision to hire lawyers who had volunteered to help the legal defenses of terrorists. Holder has assigned these lawyers to advise the administration policy on detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

In a coming interview with PJTV, Senator Grassley said he thought Holder was “in trouble with the committee.” Grassley also said the policy of keeping the names, backgrounds, and assignments of the political appointees “was wholly inconsistent with the president’s promise of transparency.”

The Justice Department begrudgingly released the names of some of the appointees to Fox News after Keep America Safe released a video titled “Who Are the Al-Qaeda Seven?” — a reference to the seven Holder lawyers who previously defended enemy combatants. The video asked viewers to call the Justice Department:

Tell Eric Holder Americans have a right to know the identity of the Al-Qaeda Seven.

A congressional source told PJM that a flood of telephone calls to the department following the TV commercial pushed the department to release at least some of the names. However, it is still unclear what kind of access they have to sensitive information and what policies they are deciding.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is expecting to grill Holder on March 12, when he is scheduled to testify before the committee.

It is rare when the intersection of two powerful stories converge on a cabinet member in such a short time. But Holder’s twin audacious decisions — to bring into his office lawyers who helped enemy combatants, and to award new civil rights to terrorists in a New York trial — have just blown up in his face.

This is not the first time Holder has been soft on terrorists. In July 1998, as President Clinton’s deputy attorney general, Holder asked for clemency for 16 Puerto Rican terrorists. In making the recommendation Holder was opposed by the U.S. pardon attorney, the FBI, the federal prosecutor, and the victims.

The clemency recommendation also was unusual because, before the commutations, the terrorists were not required to repudiate their actions, and they were not asked to provide any information concerning the whereabouts of Victor Manuel Gerena, a co-conspirator and one of the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, or the millions of dollars stolen by the group in a 1983 robbery of Wells Fargo in West Hartford, Connecticut.

The attorney general’s positions reflect those of many “progressives” who have criticized the war on terror. In a July 2008 speech before the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy, Holder said:

This I think is a particular time in our nation’s history where the pendulum has starting to swing or has swung, and I think the notion of a progressive America, an America run by progressive has about to happen.

With this new administration that’s going to be starting in January … we’re going to be looking for people who share our values.

Traditionally, the attorney general is the closest cabinet official to the president. When President Kennedy was elected, he named his brother Bobby to serve as his AG.

President Obama, moreover, did not simply choose Holder out of friendship. The president is steeped in constitutional law. He once was a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago and was the president of the Harvard Law Review.

So he knew what he was doing when he green lit Holder’s actions.

In fact, Burlingame found the entire episode of Holder “acting on his own” disingenuous:

If he was tasked with making this (KSM) decision, it shouldn’t have been his decision alone. … It was a commander-in-chief decision. Are we at war? And if we’re at war are they enemy combatants? This is a commander-in-chief decision.

Fighting the Blood Libels Made Against Israel

Pajamas Media
March 6, 2010 - by Stephanie L. Freid

Philippe Karsenty, the man who exposed the al-Dura hoax, says that the Goldstone Report accusing Israel of war crimes is "the son of Mohammed al-Dura."

You’d think that fighting an uphill battle would get exhausting after a few years. But from all indications, al-Dura hoax theorist and media analyst Philippe Karsenty shows no signs of fatigue.

Karsenty came to public attention when he was sued for libel by France 2 after accusing the network of broadcasting staged footage of Mohammed al-Dura’s shooting death during a gun fight in Gaza in 2000. France 2 originally won the case, but the judgment was overturned by a Paris court in May 2008.

One would assume that would be sufficient victory needed to lay it all to rest. But a decade after al-Dura, an intrepid Karsenty insists the fight to clear Israel’s name is far from over.

Visiting Israel in February on yet another tireless round of campaigning, he was riding the high of a favorable Haaretz op-ed piece penned in January by military analyst Reuven Pedatzur. Pedatzur praised Karsenty’s relentless al-Dura investigations and accused Israel’s government of neglect. “Mohammed al-Dura — Israel’s greatest PR failure,” the title railed.

Karsenty agrees with the sentiment and his confidence is bolstered by support also flowing forth from Jerusalem Post columnist Caroline Glick.

Israel’s foreign ministry has taken a “‘let’s forget about this entire affair — we don’t care’ attitude instead of fighting for the truth,” Karsenty states as we sit together in the lobby of Tel Aviv’s David Intercontinental Hotel. “But the affair and its implications are far from over.”

Because as he continues traveling the world and airing al-Dura footage clips that he says prove the shooting was staged, the analyst arrived in Israel to be met with what he describes as complacent and patronizing apathy.

RAI is running an anti-Israel documentary in the coming weeks that will further disseminate the Israeli blood libel. The BBC ran a documentary, Generation Jihad, earlier this month that included a suggestion al Dura was faked,” Karsenty explains.

“A decent human being doesn’t want to live a fraudulent life of fraudulent claims. Two years after winning my trial, the very government that should be supporting me is undermining my efforts.”

Karsenty says Israel’s officials have a responsibility to clear the country’s good name. But in fact, his understanding is that foreign ministry front people have been given directives to not support him.

Particularly embarrassing, Karsenty says, is being asked by public figures outside Israel about the government’s lack of support. During a recent meeting, Claude Guéant, the general secretary to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, was incredulous. “Gueant said: ‘If the material was faked, why is the government not backing you?’ What do I answer? And what do I tell people who ask why Israel’s ambassador to Belgium says it’s time to forget about al-Dura? Abroad people are fighting for Israel’s good name and the state is undermining that.”

One could argue that Karsenty has taken the al-Dura affair too far. A decade is a decade, after all. He won his case and gained support for the hoax theory. German documentary maker Esther Schapira broadcast not one but two documentaries skeptical of al-Dura’s principal players. “There was a claim of three bullets to the child — 15 fired on him and his father altogether — but no blood,” she reported. Her latest documentary, The Child, the Death and the Truth: The Mystery of the Palestinian Boy Mohammed Al-Dura, was broadcast on German national television and beyond last year.

Why not give it a rest already?

“Because the Goldstone Report is the son of Mohammed al-Dura,” he coolly replies.

Had the Israeli government done a proper job of staunching the slander ten years ago, he explains, the worst blood libel in history against the state wouldn’t have persisted. Like a cancer spreading from an appendage to the entire body, Karsenty says, the UN Human Rights Council’s anti-Israel report is a direct product of al-Dura and packs a particularly powerful punch because it was created and defended by a Jew. “Just like Charles Enderlin. They are both Jews,” Karsenty deadpans. “The media lies, the Arabs lie, Israel does nothing, and nobody challenges the libel.”

Hence his personal mission: stop the slander he says endangers Israelis traveling abroad and Jews living outside Israel by bringing grassroots and intellectuals onboard his campaign and re-bolstering declining international support. A decline he fears will lead to decreased funding and political support and ultimately result in an unsustainable world for the Zionist state.

“Israel won’t meet its end by bombing campaigns. It will be a political death led by the UN, the EU, and diplomats,” he theorizes.

If there’s an end-goal for Karsenty, it’s a France 2 apology to Israel forced by the French government.

Looks like it’s time to usher in a few more decades of campaigning.

Karsenty disagrees, saying France 2 will “definitely admit fraud” as the pressure mounts higher and higher because “there is no substitute for the truth.”

Call me a naysayer.
