Abraham Foxman: Tell Us Again How ADL’s Semi-Denial of the Armenian Holocaust Helped Israeli-Turkish Relations
by Bill Levinson
Let’s Help Abe Foxman with the Armenian Genocide Issue
Let us not forget that, in 2008, Abraham Foxman proclaimed the ADL’s “neutrality” in the controversy over Congressional recognition of the Armenian Holocaust, and then urged Congress to reject the resolution (i.e. sided with Turkey against the Armenians). Foxman then fired ADL Director Andrew Tarsy for recognizing the Armenian Holocaust as, well, a genocide, and reinstated him only after other ADL Directors resigned in disgust.
The letter, signed by Foxman and Glen S. Lewy, the ADL’s national chairman, said “we have acknowledged the massacres of Armenians at the hands of the Ottoman Empire and called on Turkey to do more to confront its past and reconcile with Armenia. We will continue to press Turkey, publicly and privately . . .” But the letter also makes clear that the national ADL feels the safety of Israel, which considers Turkey a rare Muslim ally, is paramount.
Right, Dishonest Abe, tell us again how Turkey is Israel’s Muslim ally in the Middle East. Meanwhile, as for any suggestion by Turkey that Israel “negotiate” the status of Jerusalem, that should happen just as soon as Turkey negotiates the status of Constantinople with Greece and Italy, both of which (as the former Byzantine and Roman Empires respectively) have a legitimate claim to it.
